Deleting e-mails in mass

I'm wondering how to delete several e-mails at once rather than having to swipe them out of the inbox and then again out of the trash individually. When getting hundreds of e-mails a day, deleting those unneeded one-by-one is a huge hassle. There must be some way to mark all those you want to delete and hit delete to get rid of them at once.
