 Palm TX + GPRS/EDGE Aircard
Greetings,
I have a few questions for the group that I'd like some advice about. I'm interested in connecting an air modem(PCMCIA, PC CARD, or ExpressCard type) to my Palm TX via the TX's Athena multi-connector. I think I'd be able to find the connectors and flat ribbon cable that I'd need for the physical connection without too much problem, but at this point I'm wondering :
1) Is this possible to do or am I wasting my time considering it? I don't have one of the few bluetooth phones the TX is known to support for net access, nor is that an option for me, and I read somewhere that a USB based aircard cannot be made to talk to the TX.
2) Assuming the answer to my first question is yes, The second question involves pinouts. I have seen a decent discussion about the Athena and the PC Card connectors on Wikipedia including their respective pin locations, but admittedly, I'm still not too sure about what connects to what, nor am I certain if the aircard could be driven (its power) by the TX itself or if I should provide auxilliary power to the card.
3) The third question involves software to permit the TX to talk to the aircard. I don't yet have the aircard, that's partly why I'm writing this. I know there are many aircards out there, and I'm thinking one or more may be able to talk to the TX with little or no effort on my part - I'm not in a position to write prc's to get the two to talk, but I can write scripts if needed. So does anyone know of a particular aircard that can communicate with Palm devices as I'm proposing? I do have WEME Java Virtual Machine 5.7.2 installed if that helps.
Also, I'm living in a semi remote area of Thailand where I have to walk a considerable distance to get to mains power to charge the pda, but despite this remoteness, the country does have a lot of cell phone towers. That said, I have not been able to get the TX online in this country because Thailand is not listed (in the TX's phone config dialogs) as a choice - even though Thailand is about to go 3G sometime soon.
Any help would be ge greatly appreciated, thanks!
