I would - the majority of people here have little interest in Linux based PDAs, which given Tapwave's recent departure may well be one of the few options left open to people who despise Microsoft products...

Plus, I'm sick of being surrounded by people (and I use that term *very* loosely) who still have goddammed pimples.

Laika - Scratchbox Eclipse-plugin project
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~laika/
QUOTING --
What is Laika?
Our plan so far is to create a new Eclipse plugin which uses Scratchbox. Communication between Eclipse and Scratchbox is mainly handled with shell-commands. This plugin makes it possible to use Scratchbox without familiarizing oneself with Scratchbox. The main idea is that user can cross-compile programs to ARM-binaries.
User will be able to run and debug programs, which use X-window or X-window with Maemo environment. The programs will be inserted inside Scratchbox, so our plugin makes it possible to create, edit, run and debug your applications from Eclipse. This makes much easier to develop your own progams for e.g. Nokia 770 Internet tablet.

\"The non-PDA handheld future\"
http://www.teleread.org/blog/?p=3311
This is where I lay out why I'm a believer, from everything that Nokia is doing.
Coming soon: the need for a computer you can use standing up. (Even Bill Gates agrees.)

The need has always been there.
Those cretins at Palm had the future -- and jerked off, letting it get away.

You're right. I meant Coming soon: an article about why we're finally going to get computers we can use standing up

Robert X. Cringely has a new column up about Skype and VOIP:
http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20050728.html
I wrote him (no forums) to ask if Nokia wouldn't be a good candidate for purchasing Skype but he splashed water on that idea, saying it would piss off the companies like Verizon that buy Nokia phones to have Nokia competing with them.
Of course, the Skype purchaser may make for a great market to sell 770s to in bulk.
Roger

Maemo Doom: Almost there!
http://www.marceloeduardo.com/blog/arch ... most-there
\"On Device speed: Very fast!\"
This link came from a comment posted at Nokia770.com
This led me to a page on Game Development on the Maemo wiki that looks up to date and certainly more complete than what I've seen before:
http://www.maemo.org/maemowiki/GameDevelopment
Here Doom is described thusly:
\"Full screen game play on the real device. FAST! REALLY FAST. Sounds great too. After solving some UI-related stuff we'll post the code. Only some texture-related functions needed to be changed to work.\"

Yes, Mike, where did you go?
Am I having a senior moment? I don't get this paragraph in your 770 review:
Nokia made a point to mention that unlike other Bluetooth devices, the 770 does not broadcast its presence \"for security reasons.\" (See this article for the possible wisdom of that.) This could mean that existing Bluetooth keyboards might not work, even with 770-specific drivers. It seems to me that the Bluetooth keyboard would have to discover the 770, whereas current keyboards expect a device to discover them. That said, although Nokia has no plans for one (which is odd, since they already have this keyboard it is possible for a manufacturer to create a portable Bluetooth keyboard to work with the 770. Another side-effect of the 770 not broadcasting its Bluetooth presence is that 770-to-770 Bluetooth connections will not be possible.
I'm sure that the problem is lack of experience with Bluetooth (only used it once to setup my T2 to access internet through my BT enabled laptop), but this seems backward. If the keyboard is sending out a BT signal, wouldn't it be up to the \"silent\" 770 to discover the keyboard and allow the keyboard to connect? What am I missing? Also, why does that preclude 770-to-770 connections?
Confusedly yours, Ron

Sheesh, why don't you like me. I'm actually a quite nice guy. I'm even dissing the WinMob guy who is mocking you in the news center.
Oh well, I guess it's easy for those of us who love(d) Palm to be a little testy today.
