 AvantGo Installation Error

Post AvantGo Installation Error
I just got myself a 2nd N710C (w/OS 4.1) and eveything seemed to be working fine. So I took my old Visor out and uninstalled the all it's software off my Win2K desktop (Palm Desktop, AvantGo, etc). After that, I installed the Newest version of Palmdesktop (4.0.1) and eveything worked fine at this point (deveice snycs perporly and all is well). But when I install AvantGo client software (4.0) I get an error. At the end of the software installation where it says that it's doing registery changes, 7 (yes, 7 of them, one after another) error boxes would popout and they all say the samething: "String MAL_PRODUCT_NAME_STRING was not found in string table." Afeter this, the software would do eveything it supposed to do like bring up IE to it's website. But when you snyc the device again, eveyting would go well execpt that AvantGo would not snyc! In the Hotsnyc manager, there is supposed to be an intry for AvantGo, mine however, does not show one. Instead it says "String MAL_PRODUCT_NAME_STRING" ???

Any ideas?

Hi,

I have a similar problem on a Windows XP PC : Avantgo installation seems to go smooth (no error message) but the Avantgo conduit in HotSync manager is not there ! That means AvantGo channels do not sync...

I have a Windows ME laptop running the same versions of both Palm Desktop (4.0.1) and AvantGo (4.2 built 1165) and there is NO problem at all.

If somebody as a clue...

It is intresting to see that after soooo long, someone had finally replyed my post and the whole topic has been moved to the Software section of the forum <img src=icon_smile_sleepy.gif border=0 align=middle>

Anyway, the problem could be solved if you uninstall the AvantGo software totally. Go to AvantGo's website and download the latest build (Yes, the latest is version 4.0. But the builds are actually different) and install it. If you still have problem, uninstall the whole Palm Desktop software. Upon reinstalling it, make sure you install AvantGo before you install any other 3rd party Palm snycing software.
