Myself, I'm torn. I'm probably going to wind up picking up a German Pre, but I hate the idea of the QWERTZ board. It's very tempting to instead try and pick up and Irish pre-paid Pre and hope for a hack.

As a bonus, the Irish Pre is cheaper too: 420 Euros vs 481 for the German version.

Heh. I'm actually going to speak with the virtual keyboard guy about it after lunch, if I can catch him :)

Pre-paid? I thought that meant you didn't have to sign up for anything. It is SIM-locked to O2, but I reckon the hackers will find a way around that quickly.

still, I'm probably going to wind up going German. the real question is how the hell I'm going to find someone to buy it for me and ship it internationally... i don't think O2 will.

According to Spanish tech blog Xatakamovil, the phone will be priced ranging from 0 to 219 euros on contract, depending on the plan selected.

freakout,

What;s the matter? No Aussie version in the pipeline? I thot Palm was doing an exclusive in most countries with one carriers, ala Germany, Ireland, Spain. Or are you just trying to get ahead of the curve to get one?

LiveFaith - no Aussie version that I'm aware of, and I'm sick of waiting. If one does show up I'll eBay the German one. ;)

@freakout
We should try and get a bunch of Aussies together and aim for a bulk discount.
At the very least we could save on shipping.

Post Re: So, which GSM Pre are you going to get?
I'm not currently a Palm user (my T3 gathers dust on my desk, untouched for years). Right now I'm leaning towards Android, but I could potentially come back to Palm once they go GSM and AT&T picks them up.

However, some improvements would need to be made. I like that WebOS continues to improve, but having used the Pre for a bit I'm not satisfied with the hardware. The keyboard is next to unusable, especially the topmost row of keys. And it felt slow.

On the WebOS side, I seem to remember hearing of some significant shortcomings in its features when compared to the original PalmOS that would matter to veteran Palm users like me. I can't remember what they are now though, so I'm wondering if people could list some that they know of so I could make a personal list of things to track.

In other words, areas where WebOS doesn't match Garnet in feature parity when it comes to:

- Calendar
- To-Dos
- Memos
- Contacts
- Any other original "core" Palm features.

For what it's worth, I used to use Datebk+ too.
