I thought I should say that Jeff Hawkins + Ed Colligan in October 2005 commented that Graffiti 1 dispute has not been settled and it Xerox was still in the appeal process.

Gargl l installed directly one of the files
l was eager to replace g2 by G1 and start writing a t or a i with only one stroke again that l only read after the sync that the 2 files had to be installed on the sd card first.
Now the palm keeps on resetting and l don't know what to do except a hard reset which l'd like to avoid.
any idea about how l could get out of this mess ?
Thanks

Does this version of G1 (that you say works on the TX) work on T|E2 also? Right now I'm using TealScript and I'm glad to have G1 back, but it still is far pickier than the original G1 used to be on my last pda (a Palm III). I'd really like to get G1 on my T|E2. Does anyone know?

I think the real issue here is what version of System Software you have running on your T|E2. I believe, before a certain date, Palm made software that would allow you to do the switch but as soon as they saw people "violating" the agreement they may have made with Xerox and/or the makers of G2 they changed their software to make that kind of "violation" impossible.
I got my T|X in late November, 2005. It will not allow me to install G1 (and I have tried). TealScript is the only way I can retain my ability to write almost as fast as I could with G1.
I think that part of the problem I'm having with writing on my T|X relates to the slower response time the T|X has with the digitizer -- or the overhead due to the use of TealScript. But at least I cam make the letters "I" "T" "K" and "V."

In reading postings here, I was startled to read that I could use G1 on my new Palm TX. I performed a Hotsync, then a soft reset and I have my life back again. I am a long-time Palm user and was mortified when Palm introduced G2. I cannot stand double strokes and, in my mind, the strokes in G1 are much more logical vis-a-vis my computer keyboard (upstroke = capital key, etc.). ONLY TWO PROBLEMS DISCOVERED SO FAR, HOWEVER. First, there are some PIM functions where I must do an upstroke for the system to recognize I am entering characters (otherwise, the cursor moves on my first stroke from where it was to wherever I started tapping), and second, there is a problem in Blazer when surfing the Web. Any blocks requiring input are fine until I run out of room to enter additional, essential characters. When entering one more, the Palm crashes. This is a consitent problem. Any ideas how to get around this?

That Blazer crash bug is a known problem with the Graffiti 1 libraries, I don't think I've seen a fix for it.

Is there any way around the Blazer problem? I've tried using the on-screen keyboard but it crashes Blazer just like using G1. Anyone have any other suggestions?

 RamDisk and Palm TX
I just upgraded to a Palm TX and was trying to install the RAMDisk application that worked so well on my Tungsten T3 (so that I could install Graffiti 1). Unfortunately, RAMDisk seems to be incompatible with the device (after reboot the screen goes \"crazy\" and I needed to do a hard boot to recover).
Does anyone know of a way to use RAMDisk with a TX? Or to install G1 without RAMDisk?

I am using TealScript on my T|X. It works fine.

 Graffiti 1 Installation on TX
After posting my previous message, I decided to try synching the G1 files to the Palm. After doing a regular installation and a soft reset, G1 worked just fine. I didn't use an SD card and I didn't use RAMDisk.

That was my experience as well. I simply sent the files to the TX via a Hotsync operation and found G1 working fine (except for the Blazer problem I mentioned, above).

 blazer crash
you can get around the Blazer crash problem with G1 installed if you use the popup keyboard built in to the OS.
I'm not even sure it's documented but it's there.
If you 'click' into a input field in blazer and go menu -> edit -> keyboard,
you will avoid the crash.
I've mapped the popup keyboard to a penswipe and it works very well for me. You can have the keyboard displayed at the same time as the graffiti area so you can switch back and forth on the fly.

 Yes Graffiti 1 is better
I've wrestled with G2 on my T|X for months now. It's not as intuitive as Graffiti 1. It's not as fast. Often it just plain doesn't work. I know it's unlikely Palm will bring back G1, even if all the legal issues could be cleared up. But I still want G1 and am willing to go to great lengths to get it.
In fact, in lieu the recent hacked Graffiti 1 files for T|X, I did something desperate: I found myself an old Visor Deluxe ($2.50 at Goodwill, plus another $10 on ebay for a sync cable) and UPgraded to the older machine. Yes, it's big and heavy. No, it doesn't run a lot of new programs. No, there's no wi-fi or bluetooth or gorgeous color screen. But most importantly, THERE'S NO GRAFFITI 2!
See, Palm, how important this is to people? In upcoming versions (assuming the legalities are settled) could you at least give us the choice on initial bootup? Something like:
Select the version of Graffiti you would like to use:
--Graffiti 1 (original Graffiti)
--Graffiti 2 (bastard spawn of the US legal system)
Or something like that.
Otherwise, personally, if Graffiti 2 is a permanent addition to the operating system, I'm looking to move to something else than Palm OS ... like pencil and paper. (C'mon, you didn't think I meant WinCE did you?)

Thank you so much Mr. Admin!!!
I've had my TX for about 10 days with no major issues. I thought I would get used to the Graffitti 2. But today I just got fed up. Now I'm back to G1 and I'm lovin' my new TX!!!!

 Above instructions crashed my TX
As a former Palm IIIxe user for many years, I was very comfortable with Grafitti 1. I recently got a TX, and absolutely LOVE it ... but I'm not using Grafitti 2 because I find it very un-user-friendly. Instead, I've been getting used to tapping the tiny virtual keyboard on the screen, and have been getting pretty good at it. Today I tried the above instructions to try installing Grafitti 1 on my TX, (using FileZ to move the files from my SD card to the internal memory). When I did the soft reset, it crashed over and over and over and over and over and over and over!!! I ended up having to do the dreaded hard re-set! Fortunately I had hot-synched shortly before that, so I was able to restore everything from my computer back to the TX. I have a TON of games, 3rd party utilities and other programs installed, and this is the first time I've ever crashed the TX. I will NEVER again mess with Grafitti 1!!! It's virtual keyboard for me from now on!
