 Zire 71/72 Replacement screen
Legodude,
If I can ever get a replacement screen for my wife's Zire 72 I am going to use these directions to replace it. Awesome detail.
Do you know, or know anyone who knows, where to actually get a replacement screen? I've looked at pdaparts.com but they only have digitizers. I know that the screen is broken because it is doing the LCD \"bleeding\". I've looked on ebay but I'm tired of watching auctions because I think everyone else is doing the same thing. I was hoping to find another parts outlet less known so I can finally fix it!
Thanks,
Stuart

Thanks, Stuart Hello, welcome to PalmInfocenter! Good screens can be found in dead Palms on ebay or from people on the forums. Maximillian_X said he was fresh out of screens but I recently referred someone to him via email for a good screen that would work. Please read his thread here.

Lego, I read in another thread that you used a butter knife to open the PDA you have. Could you give more details if you used the knife? Thanks.

I used a flat butter knife horizontally to pry open a Zire 72/T|C. It worked much better than using a flat head screw driver. By using the knife, it spread the pressure and prevented makign dents in the metal. Recently, I started using a pocket knife which worked in the same way.
So, less dents, safer, and easier to pry open.

I assume a flat butter knife might be a better alternative on a plastic case like the TX. Laughing......I could see myself using a pocket knife and scratching the thing to death......hmmmmm.........do you suppose that might affect the warranty?

Great post. Had a user spray window cleaner on screen of m515 and now has moisture under the glass of screen. Now I can disassemble and try to wipe off glass. LCD looks undamaged so that is good. What a helpful post. Thanks,
Debra

FYI, many cleaners will slowly ruin the screen. So don't do that anymore

legodude...you are right. Just opened the m515 and they are not seperate. Any suggestions? The Palm is in good working shape otherwise. Just a small, maybe size of a bean spot on the screen. Looks like a dried waterdrop under the glass.
Thanks,
Debra

Thanks to this tutorial I have successfully replaced my Zire 72 screen (btw, my T3 is for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1 ) - buy it now is set at $160, but the reserve is $120.
It's in great shape, but I had to have the camera in the Zire!

I'll buy your old Palm parts (currently looking for Tungsten T2/T3, E and Zire 71/72 parts or whole broken PDAs)

Thanks, Stuart You can buy new screens here: http://www.pdaparts.com/ The 320x320 res screens for the mentioned Palm earlier aren't listed at PDAparts. PDAparts didn't have any in stock for more than a year.

You could try usedpdaparts.com. Their prices are better than pdaparts, and they are pretty quick with questions about stock availability...
