Since I've had a few people asking about the pin locations on the Athena connector, here's a pic that hopefully will help clarify things at least a little. It is just a cutout from one of the pages of Palm's developer's guide with a little editing to clean it up.

I have received a few other questions about this project, so I wanted to mention a few suggestions for anyone considering doing this.
First, resistors come in different sizes. If you look back at the original post pictures, you can see that the final resistor that I used in the adapter was very small physically, making it much easier to find a good location for it.
The wires coming out of a resistor are not insulated (no plastic tube). Those wires are plenty long to just solder them directly to the connector tabs, but you need to insulate them. An easy way to get insulation around them is to find some insulated wire of slightly larger size and strip the insulator off of that and slide it onto the resistor's wires.
Using very thin wire throughout the project makes it easier to get everything stuffed into a very small space. And thin wire is more flexible The way I get very thin wire is to get a short section of multi-line telephone cable and pull the individual wires out of that. (It's similar to Ethernet cable, which would probably work fine too.) You not only have very thin wire, but you have many different colors as well.
\"Tin\" everything prior to trying to solder it together. Tinning is to melt a little solder directly onto the future point of contact prior to trying to solder them together. It will make things connect so much more smoothly later, reducing the amount of time you need to heat the components/wires (which reduces how much you melt the plastics involved).
You can cut off the unused connector tabs with a wire cutters or even a scissors to create additional space. If you just bend them over (like I did), you need to make sure that you aren't going to have any of them make contact with each other and short something out.
Finally, a hot-glue gun is a very handy tool for this kind of electronics work. It is a great insulator, cools very quickly, and holds everything in place very well. They are relatively cheap to buy at craft stores. You can just get the smallest, cheapest one you can find.

twrock, where did you get Treo Conector from?!
I'm trying to source a fully pinned out Treo connector for a 650 in order to make some radio interface cables that need the serial interface, can't find anyone who sells 'em for under $70 as a complete cable.
Can you tell me where you got that one shown in the photo, with all the positions populated?
Thanks.

The one in the pictures is a Gomadic brand. A web search should find them. However, you might do even better to drop a private message to WyreNut and see if he's still selling connectors from his stock.
Good luck.

(Ok, I think this might just be my final post on this topic!)
Here's a link to a PIC article reviewing a similar adapter (but it even has stereo output) from Tech Center Labs. So unless you simply like to do this kind of project for the fun of it, buying one from them is definitely the better option.

My audio out crapped out recently. Not sure if the connector failed, or the Palm. Did this happen to anyone else? The mic still works. I suspect flux corrosion may have caused a connection to fail.
[EDIT] After testing my adapter, sound plays through it fine. So the Left output channel must have died on my palm. Anyone else experience this?

Corrosion on the contact surfaces is a definite possibility. Two of my cradles started to have contract problems after a period of non-use. I cleaned the contacts on both the cradles and the TX and solved the problem.
Good luck.

Hello, friends!
Can anyone post here full schematic of this external-mic-connector? Just only pictures, no words please. Thanx!

Yes, cleaning the contacts most definitely helps.
Thank you for the posts!

Wouldn't mind seeing one of these as well, and I've searched around a little. No dice so far.

Not sure if this is what you want, but here goes anyway.
Everything else simply depends on what kind of headset and jack you are using.

Re: Palm TX VOIP headset adapter
Debt Consolidation Help

Ok, I'm a bit embarrassed that I didn't notice that the "recent" commenting in this thread looks like a pile of spam (starting with GloriaSoso up there). Yeah, I'm slow, but your spamming is unacceptable. If a moderator notices this, you might want to consider deleting those posts and accounts. I think Spanish one is fake as well (notice the translation software messed up "TX" and reads "Texas" instead). Nothing to see here people. Just move on.
