On the other hand don't worry if it's not straight forward or a comfortable thing to do...

Post Re:
Anyway to get past the worthless call center is a go and take them up on the offer.

I just spent 20 minutes of frustration talking to the call center somewhere (I'll be PC because I can guess where it was) in the world.

I called to tell them that the headphone jack on my sons TX is getting bad. The TX is 7 months old and you can feel the jack is bad. If you wiggle the plug you can sometimes get it to work.

The call center solution was to do a hard re-set. I asked why are you going the software route when it is clearly a hardware problem. She said, sometimes a hard reset will fix bad hardware. Well isn't that a revelation, software can fix a bad solder joint or bad jack connector. Wow!

I went through this same nonsense with a HP laptop. Finally that tech center called it a hardware problem and set up a warranty ticket.

I do work on my own computers so I'm not a dummy and it drives me crazy when these calls centers won't get off script and be what a tech support person is.....a helpful knowledgeable person.

I'm in the USA and if today, there were a company that advertised all call centers of purchased products will be in the USA but the product will be 5% more..........I'd be the first in line to buy it. On a $1,200 laptop that would only mean $60 and on a $300 TX, $15. That is cheap insurance to keep me from going crazy!

quote=\"legodude522\"]If you want, I can give Palm a nudge. I can email my contact at Palm. He was able to help once before. I'd rather not bother him but if so... :)[/quote]

I think legodude went off the idea, did pm him but he has stayed quiet - perhaps has been busy...will have to keep trying the rubbish tech support lot until they give in. Don't think I will stay loyal to Palm unless they really get their act together in hardware & service quality - will be seeking an alternative..who knows maybe back to pen & paper !

(Why when my rather old Nokia phone has been so reliable & taken a few knocks & bumps without any probs Palm can't do something similar ? No surprise I had no worries about moving on to another Nokia recently....& they built on the strengths of their OS & improved the hardware....Palm look at what some others are doing...!)

Post Re:
I am mad as H** and I am not going to take it anymore.

Since 1975 I have been in business for myself, I give excellent service and have no complaints. A company knows when a product is a problem, will be a problem and how to fix a problem. When the company ignores the problem, offers little help to the customer the company needs to be dealt with in a strong manner. I have never, ever, never entertained class action suits but I have contacted several attorneys about the possibility of TX owners being added in the Treo Class Action.

If Palm had a good, solid customer service department these issues could be solved. All the money they save in the foreign call centers will be eaten up in defense and possible claims.

I spent over an hour and fifteen minutes today on the phone with Palm and didn't get any satisfaction. I have one palm TX that is failing and I wonder when my other TX will begin to fail? I also spent time researching complaints about the TX and most all fall in the same categories: Headphone jack; digitizers and power switches.

Errrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your posts Gregte & Sungod..

Gretge - I have to say that in retrospect some signs were there from when I got the TX that the screen was of low quality: - it had uneven responsiveness - and mostly needed heavy pressure to work at all compared to most previous Palms I used. Interestingly the 'recon.' T3 I was given under warranty for the last of two similar T3 failures has a much nicer screen - I think it's a Sony screen from the bright 'spotlights' at the bottom. This needs little pressure & works beautifully....but I want that on my TX !

I'm going to stick out for a warranty repair though as it is clearly a hardware failure - and it's not resulted from a drop..

Sungod,

Thanks for the sympathetic and informative post - and the entertaining digressions  ....

- Okay - will stick with Palm for now annoying as they are and resort to HP PPC as a last resort !

.. Palm Support have not even acknowledged my second email from 5 days ago explaining that it is not a software issue & a repair is needed- and that was one I asked to be dealt with by a manager ! I will be complaining again.

.. Very frustrating
:x

Do Palm treat Treo owners this badly ? Or do they get preferential treatment ? Any Treo users want to comment ...?

Frustratedly

'm130fbc'
- who got a TX & wishes he still had his little old M130 sometimes !

I done that repair a couple times before. All it took was a bit of soldering. Would only take up 15 minutes of my time.

Still no response from Palm on my end.

Post Sungod again
I tried PowerDiGi and that seems to have fixed the problem for me but we will see what happens when the two week trial runs out.
It may just go back to the way it was.
I'll just repeat myself in case anyone from Palm wasn't lessening the first time “All Palm really has to do is update the digitizer to take up the full 320x480 screen and that would fix the prob.”
Even better Buy out PowerDigi and incorporate that into PalmOS.
Hay it works for Microsoft.

117 taps thats fantastic.

Well, despite a reply to the last request from Palm tech Support for me to try another hard reset and get back to the sender by email for help if it didn't work ....my necessary further request has continued to be totally ignored....
...I have heard absolutely NOTHING :x

..in a word OUTRAGEOUS !

I will not be letting this drop , eventually as noted before I may drop Palm...

I'd hate for that to happen. I wish there was more I can do. I can point you to a really good consumer activist site but I don't want to hurt Palm. :?

I have now put in yet another request for warranty service via the Palm UK Website. Any suggestions what to try next anyone if I get fobbed off again ?
Are we talking solicitors (lawyers for you guys Stateside) ?

[By the way, the BlackBerry I've been given by work is growing on me. ... I had a duff one first time that kept crashing but the second one has been very robust so far.... shame it won't take all those Palm OS apps I paid for.... ]

Well small miracle it seems but Palm have at last agreed - pending yet another response from me, to doing a repair of my TX with the terse line...

'According to the information provided, it would appear that your Palm(tm) product requires repair'

- masters of mechanical understatement...

Lets see what the result is before I breathe any sigh of relief..

Finally! I wonder why they suddenly decide to repair it.

I would never do such poor customer service. I'm a technician and a lot of times I do have to talk to customers on the phone and talk to them via email. I just try my best to get the job done for them and on time. Anyone who ignores you is just being an a**. I'm really touchy with this stuff cause Apple, Inc screwed me out of $250 and a replacement LCD screen so I don't take these things lightly.

Post Update
Giving you guys an update my digitizer is now about 4mm(1/6in) out along the bottom edge.
Strangely the top is fine.
Looks like I'll be making my own call to Palm tech sup.

Sungod I've little doubt this is a generic manufacturing fault that Palm won't admit to openly. The fault reporting options lists many possibilities - but not this over commonly reported fault...

Well over 2 working days have passed since I provided Palm Tech Support - for the umpteenth time my with home address serial no & model details etc for the 'SRO' number required for me to be able send the thing off for repair...All they have top do for goodness sake is email one to me - doesn't cost much does it ? Not even the price of a stamp.

Have they replied ?

No.

I bet they don't work weekends either....they seem to be stalling again.

- and as a result they remain in their standard of service appalling.... :x

Another week on and any suggestions as to how things have gone ?

....No progress - none at all.

Palm have simply not even replied to me since I sent the information the requested so they could supply an SRO number.

Words fail me.

Anyone else been getting this scandalous failure to honour the warranty provided by Palm ?
