Post A little update
Well I at long last got a repair agreed by Palm under warranty. I sent yet another request (outlining how many times I'd already tried etc) for one via the Palm UK web site just before I went away for a short holiday thinking that I might as well do it then as Palm would not likely respond in a hurry...Upon my return from holiday I found that suddenly they had decided to give me what I was long overdue - and myself having sent a request on a Friday to them, by the following Monday a reply had been sent with a very brief one sentence apology , giving the required authorisation number & return instructions etc. The other little surprise was that the given number are only valid for two weeks ! Whats' the point of that ? I had to bend over backwards somewhat, to make sure I didn't miss that deadline - so I didn't have to spend weeks trying to get another repair number :x Is that 2 week deadline idea so that some of the the absent minded miss out on their chance, give up & buy another/ forget it etc & save Palm Inc on their warranty repair budget ? Just sounds like another way to save money to me...

I await the outcome with caution from others experience & my own of warranty 'repairs' - which include replacement recon. units of variable quality being sent as replacements : I had a very ropey m125 unit a few years back (replacing the probably generically faulty m125 unit with another with. a really poor quality screen - very bad contrast & awful to read) ; more recently the recon T3 unit they sent for my unit with the failed (2nd) digitizer had no built in SD card slot door/cover at all...but it has a very good Sony screen on it so it's not all bad ! I just couldn't be bothered to complain any more about that one. I concede the one I sent for repair had some signs of wear so I didn't send a pristine unit in - but it did have a door on the SD card slot as the T3's are manufactured with....

sungod, glad to hear you've had some success with your warranty service - hope that new unit is reliable & durable :)

Me, I will be looking for alternatives in time - though sadly one won't be easy to find that does all the apps my Palms have come to do :(

Where should one look to find out what service Treo users have been getting ? Do they get a better standard of warranty repair or what ?

One week on from sending it of for repair I got an update this am via email : My TX got to Berlin no less yesterday and a replacement unit was shipped from Prague a little later on (according to the courier tracking number given & couriers info.). The replacement already got to Stansted this am so shouldn't be too long now getting to me.

It's astonishing how far companies are spreading their ops - I mean England to Berlin, Prague to England for a unit swap ? Well as long as I get a good unit I won't worry too much about how they do it  (after ~2 months waiting  )

Post My TX returns
Well the courier got my TX back to me early this afternoon - and the tracking info was misleading as Palm clearly repaired my old unit with a new screen. There is yet another little twist to the story which is this : (to recap & save anyone who didn't read all the earlier posts on this thread my TX developed digitizer drift which no amount of heard resets would cure). Having unboxed the TX I loaded my SD card & using the backup app. I use I restored all my software... and wierdly indeed it suddeney displayed digitizer drift again....rather similar to that before. I was a bit suspicious as having tested it before this from 'factory reconditioning' to as new state it failed to register the central tapping requested to calibrate the digitizer 1st off.....hmmm. Well I ignored that & continued as it seemed to run the sequence a second time.

Anyway, the difference is that another hard reset did clear the problem - so it appears fixed after all. I will be (groan) reloading my software carefully 'from the ground up' to make sure nothing is messing it up at all but while I know as many of us do here that software incompatibilities & bugs can mess your digitizer up this reminds me of a problem that I had with my older T3 unit before - which was that a hard reset didn't always do what it ws supposed to & clear all the memory & bring it back to factory condition....It definitely happened with the T3 so I am left wondering, was it the screen that was messed up - or was it a failure of the 'hard reset' mechanism ? :?

I will just be glad that it is back working, be ultra careful with what software I run on it & pray it stays that way.

PS why are all these posts on this thread now pushed over to the right of the posting space ?

Post Good news
Great to hear you finally got it all fixed.
I haven't had any problems with mine since I got it back.
Except getting a serve from the WinMob fans at work since I'm all ways dishing out on them and boasting about Palms quality.
I was just wondering since the drift started up after you loaded the software back on.
Are you running Wine hack?
It's the only program I'm running that affects my screen in any major way.

Sungod,
Glad your unit works well now.
Well I don't have 'Wine hack', never used it. As said it was on reloading the software I had been using that I got digitizer drift again - except a hard reset cured it thankfully , which was the main difference in the end...Mystifying. When I have time I will be reloading app's one by one to figure out what's doing it....a real bore. :(

It's a wierd co-incidence, but as several repeated hard resets were tried and these kind of issues were not solved pre-repair there was plainly some hardware failure then........

Wonder what I loaded to add to the problems...

Oh yeah, and I meant to say that funnily enough I had trouble with my previous T3 unit not hard reseting properly sometimes....I wonder if for some reason the hardware system Palm designed for OS 5 to do hard resets just isn't reliable ?

Anyway, so far with the basics loaded the TX is running as it should. Also for the first time in 6.5 years of using Palms I finally got a screen protector to go onto a Palm screen properly with - almost - no air bubbles !
