Just how carefree can I be in buying an SD for a T3 ... do I have to concern myself with safe specs? When buying an SD card for a T3, are there any descriptors (such as "Ultra" or "SDHC" or "High Performance", for instance) I have to take care to avoid ? Do new cards for old devices mean I have to screen for the wrong FAT system or bit amount, etc?

Hello. I agree with bhartman34 that the TX's big screen is a nice feature for use with many programs. If you've used an old Palm you saw how little of your document or PIM database was available to look at once the grafitti area takes up its screen space. If you don't care about that so much, I think the E2's cost a lot less than the TX's. I don't know about prices of T5's.
I am not sure if you said you have the keyboard already. It's on sale at Palm website for a little while.

For your needs, I would suggest the Palm TX. It's got WiFi, a big sreen, and comes with Documents to Go.

The Universal Wireless Keyboard that Palm sells would work fine with the TX, or you could get a Bluetooth keyboard for it. (Palm's Universal Wireless Keyboard uses the IR port, rather than Bluetooth.)

Anyway, that's what I'd suggest. If Wifi isn't a concern, and cost <i>is</i>, you might want to search for the Tungsten T5 on Ebay. The specs on the T5 (including the ability to use it as a 256MB flash drive) seem a little bit better than the E2, and you can probably get it for less money.

Hi all.

I am a middle-school teacher who will be using Gradekeeper software next year for my classes. It is an add-on option for Palm products.

I need to know what is the best Palm to use for Word/Excel/PowerPoint/etc. - What is reliable and will there be newer models coming out over Summer 2008? Making a decision has truly become troublesome and frustrating.

WiFi/Bluetooth? I'm not even really sure what they are - guessing it's connectivity to the Internet?

I do not want one that has a phone - I prefer to keep that separate.

I think the optional foldable keyboard is great for my needs as I would be able to type short things up into the unit right from my desk.

(FYI: YEARS ago I owned a Palm IIIe - LOVED IT for it's simplicity...the good old days...)

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Subject: How to choose an ecommerce product? - Part II
Posted: Sat May 10, 2008 8:10 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 0

In the part I, I had discussed briefly about how most of the small businesses go about selecting a product, whereas a successful small businessmen would be careful and would evaluate the product based on various aspects listed below before making a choice.
I will relist all the important factors, which one should consider before buying an ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk) or software for their company.
1.	Ease of configuration
2.	Ability to Scale
3.	Useful latest features
4.	Available marketing tools with the product
5.	Ability to analyze data (analytics, not only google analytics!!)
6.	Reports
7.	Integration (with other modules, Like epos with near realtime online/offline synchronization of data and other packaged application )
8.	Customer Service
9.	Technical Support
10.	Technical Implementation Aspects
11.	Build vs Buy
Ease of Configuration-
It is very important that the product is configurable and suited for one’s current needs and future needs, Like some of the things one may want to determine that how easy it is to
•	Add products, categories and catalogs. Can this be dynamically created using administrative tool and dynamically displayed on the user side? Can it support multiple images with different resolution to be displayed on the user side?
•	Look and manage all the orders placed by the administrator? Before placing the order, does it check for inventories? Does it notify the administrators, if the inventories go below a threshold value? Can the administrator mix and match the shipment to the customer?
•	Create new sales store and new warehouses for inventories? Can the store’s inventory be picked up from different warehouses?
•	Define several types of prices for the same product like list price, default price, component price, sale price etc? Can the price be dynamically setup using a rules engine?
•	Associate a product with host of features like size, color, height, width, UOM, density, length etc? Can the product be setup and shown on the user side on any of the feature mentioned above or any of your new custom features?
•	Return an order, look at shopping list/wish list, browse through the items last visited, go to most popular products in store, discounted product or special product in store, look at promotional products, place a review on the product, recommend a product or provide a valuable feedback and look at the products which are most sought by the people who had brought the same product as the customer in past?
•	Can I select or add a new payment processor easily? I may want to use PayPAL today but I may need GoogleCheck out tomorrow. How many Payment engines does the product support?
•	Customize my shipment company or add a new shipping company? Can I integrate directly with ups, RoyalMail, USPS, Fedex etc?
Ability to Scale
As the company grows, eCommerce infrastructure should be able to grow with you, supporting more customers, products, and traffic as needed. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always occur, which is why scalability is such an important element in any ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk) .
It is very important to know on what technology is the product built upon. Does the vendor have enough support or knowledge on the product?
This may sound like a mute point but all these factors do really matter. It may be easy for a vendor to use an opensource product and provide the required solution but most of the opensource solutions fail in the kind of support you get and to the kind of ownership you/vendor have on the product.
It has been my experience that even with the best of the open source products, when you look deep into the code, you realize that the pieces of code have been written by people who really don’t know what the other coders have been writing introducing lot of overheads in the code and a code which is in no way modular or object oriented, making it all the more difficult for any vendor company to provide support.
Important point is look for a company that treats your online store as an important long-term investment, and has a product w

What is ecommerce?
Ecommerce (www.ritecart.co.uk) can be described as a commerce conducted electronically. It is the whole process of being able to make a sale of the product over the World Wide Web.
Electronic commerce that is conducted between businesses is referred to as Business-to-business or B2B. B2B can be open to all interested parties (e.g. commodity exchange) or limited to specific, pre-qualified participants (private electronic market).
Electronic commerce (www.ritecart.co.uk) is generally considered to be the sales aspect of e-business. It also consists of the exchange of data to facilitate the financing and payment aspects of the business transactions.
How does one go about choosing an ecommerce product?

It is my observation that while selecting an ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk) most of the customers seem to be asking themselves the following set of questions
•	How will it appear on the customer side?
•	Will it be an attractive website?
•	Will it display all of my products?
•	Can I use open source and do some developments specific to my requirement?
These questions are valid and are important but these questions should be asked only after the selection of product is done. It is very important for business, which are for a long haul to really look for ROI (Return of Investment) from their ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk).
Before selection of any product, it is very useful to list down why you need a product or software, in this case ecommerce software?
Some of the answers will be/can be
•	Increase presence in Online market and thereby have more sales
•	Introduce a new channel of business- Have a new online channel for selling goods
•	Establish Brand name, making future rollout of products/commodities easier
•	Simplify management of all sales and inventories
•	Increase productivity by integrating both Online and Offline model
•	Increase visibility of the entire business operations by integrating both online and offline models together
•	Be competitive, Just because a neighbor doing it!!!
I like the last one, because that way, one doesn’t have to really think hard but to follow his neighbor!!
Anyways, once one has his reasons chalked out, he would have also realized that this is a true line of business and needs much more investigation, investment and business initiative to make it a real success.
Online business can be only successful as successful as the tool is (the ecommerce product). To draw a comparison, one may want to travel 80 miles in an hr and may be really trying hard but that ain’t be possible with a bullock cart or may be even with a horse wagon. One would atleast need a car to make that happen.
Coming back to success, success of the ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk) would lie on how the product fares with all of the following aspects.
1.	Ease of configuration
2.	Ability to Scale
3.	Useful latest features
4.	Available marketing tools with the product
5.	Ability to analyze data (analytics, not only google analytics!!)
6.	Reports
7.	Integration (with other modules, Like epos with near realtime online/offline synchronization of data and other packaged application )
8.	Customer Service
9.	Technical Support
10.	Technical Implementation Aspects
11.	Build vs Buy
Please keep watching for my second post on the same topic, where I will expand on each of above selection criteria’s. If you happen to take your decision before my next post, consider RiteCart ecommerce product (www.ritecart.co.uk) software marketed by Palindrome Software Labs Pvt Ltd (www.palindromesoftware.com).

When I sync my Lotus Notes databases with my 755p, I get multiple entries on my calendar and contacts list. This happens whether I use Lotus EasySync or mNotes to sync with.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any resolutions known?

I just got it today. Found a code for a 20% discount too. Good for me.

Tried the copy to the 4gb card. The software runs fine but doesn't connect to the BT reciever. Called Garmin and they said welcome to the copy protectioin on the card. Fair enough I guess. I could have bought a set from them that would work with BT rcv for like $90. But the Palm comes with the suction cup holder, doulble output car adapter and such so not a bad deal. So now I have a 4gb card doing nothing.

The system rocks and I'm happy with it.

I'd like a successor to the Treo 90.

Take the Centro, remove cellphone parts, keep the same battery, and use regular SDHC instead of the mini ones the Treos use. Maybe add in wifi.
I was wondering this same question myself over the past month or two. I was contemplating dumping the TT6 software and going with Garmin's XT software with my existing BT receiver + charger on my 755p. I prefer's Garmin & Magellan's NavTeq maps over the TeleAtlas maps used by TomTom, at least on all the trips where I've been able to compare both.

But I want to load everything on my 4gb miniSDHC card (3-4 states' worth of maps + photos, mp3s, games, e-books & movies) and I never got a clear answer from anyone.

So I decided to just purchae a separate standalone GPS receiver for the car and will keep my TT setup going a bit longer.

Seems my e2 has a dead screen area. Using the stylus to select the "DETAILS" for Tasks does nothing. Using Prefs to readust point targets does not change the problem.

I have aftermarket stylii... is that it?

Is there another fix, or am I at the end of the line with this 1 year old rebuild??

Better to get a cheap tungsten c off ebay. Cheaper and more reliable than the TX. My tx has digitizer problems cos it is made of plastic. The tungsten c processor is much faster, has a qwerty keyboard so you wear down the screen much less and is also cheaper to buy.

I had problems with the digitizer of my TX after 3 months of use. I bought it new. I sent it off for repairs to palm. They changed the digitizer for me and everything was perfect for a month. After that the digitizer started to go bad again. When hitting 's' on the pop up keyboard, it doesnt register. calibrating screen doesnt help.

After many years with my Zodiac 2, the best palm device ever, I decided to get a Centro.

Wow, what have I missed. The Z was great but I never carried it cuz it was big. Replacing my SE-W600i that was in a belt holster the Centro fits in my pocket letting me dump the cowboy tech geek look. Very cool.

I've missed the easy of the Palm too. I know, it's and old clunky OS. But damn but if it doesn't do the job. I'd still run window for workgroups, OS2 or even Amiga DOS if I could.

Anyway. It's nice to be home.

I'm a palm die-hard and still have a 650! So I enjoyed this give and take quite a bit. I am concerned about Palm's future.... Anyway, is any of this related to the fact that I couldn't find a Palm PDA (in reality, ANY PDA) in Walmart, Kmart or Officemax?

I think it's related in the sense that what we're seeing is a convergence. We've had a lot of discussion on this board as to the relative merits of PDAs vs. smartphones. At the moment, smartphones seem to be winning that argument. That's not to say that one size fits all, but there seems to be significant movement in that direction. After all, it's not just Palm that has moved away from PDAs.

Now, this is related to the problems that Palm has had in this way: Palm has always been a PDA company, rather than a cell phone company. Palm isn't an automatic winner in the cell space, and they're having trouble differentiating themselves. In the PDA space, they had the advantage of decent design and a huge catalog of apps. In the cell space, the design has been much less compelling, and the abundance of apps is much less visible, because most people are going to use the phone for exactly the kinds of things Palm is promoting in its ads -- e-mail, chat, texting, etc. And the ads are no accident: Because the telcos market phones, they naturally promote those features that make them money. Those are also, unfortunately, features that don't distinguish one phone from another.

What I'd like to see is ads by Palm touting all the things you can do with a Treo/Centro that you can't do with a standard feature phone. They've got to leverage their huge app advantage somehow.

And I agree: This is turning into a really great conversation.

BUT I wonder whether there is not a way to make it wireless and still get the same functions.

Hi
I am testing my project on PalmOS simulator. When I am working on the PalmOS simulator everytime I run my application it asks to install the superwaba SDK and other files. However, in the case of Emulator it doesn't. Is there any way to save the superwaba SDK files and other necessary files rather than installing evertime?
Thank you

Darn, I can't see the lights on mine (a TX), or I just don't know how to look. But at any rate, thanks! I guess hopefully that means all these little devices like that are LED backlit. I can't wait until everything switches over, both for the longevity, and for the safety in terms of the mercury and not having another UV radiation source hitting me

Good to know since I just spent the weekend reading an ebook on it (darn Adobe and their lame Palm OS reader!)
