 Clie and Vista
Hi, I just downloaded and installed the Palm Desktop v.6.2.1 beta for Windows Vista. It installed just fine and seemed to sync with my Clie PEG-TH55 just fine too....except, there was no calendar or addressbook data exchanged. Has anyone else played around with this Vista beta? Got any suggestions on how to actually move data from my Clie to the Palm Desktop on Vista?
Thanks

Are you using the new HotSync Manager that came with it? It's not syncing at all for me.

Got any suggestions on how to actually move data from my Clie to the Palm Desktop on Vista? From the "Palm Desktop 6.2 Beta for Windows" page: Quote: Compatible Palm devices: - Treo 755p , 700p, 680, 650
- Palm TX, Z22
- Tungsten E2
- Not compatible with other Palm devices such as Tungsten T5, LifeDrive or Treo 600
Obviously Clies would not be mentioned. However, some analysis. All of the devices that are compatible are devices with Palm's enhanced PIM applications. Normally under windows conduits only run if there is an application on the device with the same creator ID as the conduit. The Palm enhanced PIM applications used different creatorIDs than the original PIM applications. It seams quit likely that, since this is still beta and only supporting newer devices, Palm did not include the conduits for the legacy PIM applications. To verify this theory, try opening up the Hotsync Custom dialog box (Hotsync manager in the tool tray, Custom...). Do you see any conduits called Date Book, Address Book, To Dos, and Memo Pad? These would be the legacy conduits. Maybe the following will work (I could see it might not for various reasons): - Uninstall Palm desktop 6.2 beta.
- Install one of the recent Palm desktops that did support both the legacy and enhanced PIM applications, Palm desktop 4.1.2 or latter. Version 4.1.4, and 4.1.4E were (probably still are) available for download. There also was 4.2 which came with some of the recent devcies, but Palm never made available for download. Yes I know none of these work well under Vista, but it should install.
- Install Palm desktop 6.2 beta over top of the older installation. In the past, most Palm Desktop installations would leave third party conduits as is when it installed. It may be that the 6.2 install will leave the legacy conduits in place.

 It appears I am sync'ing
Thanks for your replies.
It appears that I am sync'ing just fine....just not exchanging any data in the calendar and addressbook that is visible in the Palm Desktop. The HotSync log shows that my apps have been backed up OK too. Hummm.
The log looks like this:
HotSync session completed successfully on 08/07/07 12:43:11
HotSync session started on 08/07/07 12:42:51, and completed in 20.0 seconds
Date Book synchronized successfully

Address Book synchronized successfully
Duration: 4.3 seconds
To Do List synchronized successfully
Duration: 0.7 seconds
Memo Pad synchronized successfully
Duration: 0.7 seconds
Backed up all files successfully to [my user name here] Backup folder
Duration: 11.7 seconds
Backed up 3 file(s) successfully
ePInventory
CFEtherSettingDB
Saved Preferences
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HotSync session completed successfully on 08/07/07 12:41:00
HotSync session started on 08/07/07 12:38:04, and completed in 176.0 seconds
Date Book synchronized successfully
Duration: 2.3 seconds
Address Book synchronized successfully
Duration: 4.4 seconds
To Do List synchronized successfully
Duration: 0.5 seconds
Memo Pad synchronized successfully
Duration: 0.5 seconds
Backed up all files successfully to [my user name here] Backup folder
Duration: 166.6 seconds
Backed up 221 file(s) successfully
and a log list of my apps and data files followed....
It is kind of spooky. It appears to sync just fine but there is nothing in the Palm Desktop addressbook or calendar.
This is a fresh install of Palm Desktop and HotSync for Vista. I deleted my previous version of the Desktop which failed miserably on Vista.
Any other suggestions?

Hmm, it says "Date Book", "Address Book", "To Do List" and "Memo Pad", and not "Calendar", "Contacts", "Tasks", and "Memos". That would imply that they did include the legacy PIM conduits (or you had already installed the new desktop over the old). My assumption at this point is that these conduits do not work, or that they are in some sort of confused state. Assuming the latter, try setting the conduits that you are having problem with to Handheld overwrites Desktop and then Hotsync. (I'm assuming you consider the info the the handheld to be the better. If not use Desktop overwrites Handheld). These conduits should revert back to synchronize. Hotsync again. Test the conduits by: for each PIM application with the problem, on the desktop modify an existing record and make a new new record. On the handheld, modify an existing record different then the one modified on the desktop and make a new record. Hotsync. Verify that the two changes made on the handheld were transfered to the desktop and that the two changes made on the desktop were transfered to the handheld.

HI,
I have installed the same version, 6.2.0, and also my data is empty on the Desktop, but correct on the clie. However, I also notice the following:
In My Documents, after Hot Synch a new folder appeared called Palm OS Desktop. Within it there is a folder with my Palm account name. Within it there are all the sub-folders Address, Archive, Backup ... DateBook etc. If I enter, say, Datebook, I see several files. One is an Access file called Address. This is empty. This is the one that usually contains the data that appears on the Desktop Date book. The interesting point, however, is that there are other DB files in teh same sub-folder, one of which is called datebook and this one contains the exact, synchronized information that is now on the Handheld. If I now make a change in the Handheld and then Hotsynch, the change is indeed reflected in this table. The same happens in the folder corresponding to Address and the others. In other words, Hotsynch works OK, but the data is not in the right place, and this is why it can't be seen on the Palm Desktop. By the way, all of this data is copied exactly in the folder C:\\Program Files\\Palm
Any suggestions?
Thanks

 Vista
I have had the same problem! The Palm appears to sync, but the calendar is blank. I have tried working with the palm helpdesk and they had no idea what the problem was. They kept insisting I had a corrupted calendar or the incorrect conduits. Nothing they suggested fixed the problem.
The problem started with Vista. Until I purchased a laptop with Vista, my palm would sync just fine. I have tried to find a solution. If anyone has any suggestions I would be greatful. I'm now terrified that my Palm will break and I will have no backup on my laptop.

I think that I have the solution for your problem (no data seems to be transferred) without use of XP.
I had the same problem :
I get a new laptop with Vista 32 bits
I own a Sony CliƩ NX70/V so I can't use older CliƩ Hotsync
So :
-I get new Hotsync/Desktop manager at http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
-I install it
- I do my fisrt HotSync (very fast hotsync!)
- I open Palm Desktop and NOTHING !
- from Palm Desktop I create a new memo and exit
- with the help of Explorer.exe I search new files and the problem was located :
The filenames are different, for example memopad is sent from HotSync under the name of MEMOPAD.DB
and the name of the created with Palm Desktop is MEMOPAD.MDB !!
I delete the file MEMOPAD.MDB (new created)
I rename MEMOPAD.DB to MEMOPAD.MDB
and restart Palm Desktop
YES I GOT IT
To fix the problem, I take a look on Windows registry and modify some values under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\PalmSource\\Desktop\\Hotsync Manager]
You can see the values affected below
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\PalmSource\\Desktop\\UiModule0]
\"File0\"=\" DateBook.db\"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\PalmSource\\Desktop\\UiModule1]
\"File0\"=\" Address.db\"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\PalmSource\\Desktop\\UiModule2]
\"File0\"=\" Todo.db\"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\PalmSource\\Desktop\\UiModule3]
\"File0\"=\" MemoPad.db\"
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope that will solve your problem.
Excuse my English but it's not my mother tong.

Clie peg-n760c now syncs and works like a charm
Instructions from JJNOUI were brilliant. I found his post on this website that gave instructions on how to make files transfer or sync between handheld and Palm Desktop. I could hotsync, but no files transferred. I had downloaded PalmDesktopWin62.exe because the Cd that came with my Clie peg-n760c was useless. I had Palm Desktop 4.0 and it didn't even offer a USB option in the HotSync Manager when the thing came with a cradle and USB connection. Go figure. Anyway, the instructions said to change file extensions in the Palm OS Desktop folder which is found in My Documents and then make changes to the registry and it worked like a charm. All my contacts and calendar entries hotsynced and transferred like magic. After a month of working on this I have a pda that cost me $30.00 and it works great. I can't believe people paid $500.00 for these things when they were new. By the way, I found out that you can use Sony duo memory sticks as well as the regular ones. I bought an adapter to make it work. BE SURE AND CHECK OUT THE INSTRUCTIONS ON JJNOUI'S POST. Good luck!!

Sync Clie from Vista - GREAT FIX
All I can do is echo the comment: Instructions from JJNOUI were brilliant!
I've been trying to find a way to sync my PEGT665C CLie for almost a year since I bought a Vista laptop. This worked perfectly. (Even better, now I don't have to run out, buy a Blackberry, and convert all my data).
