Clie - Palm Tungsten E compatibility

I have a CLIE and a Palm Tungsten E. I used to be able to move files between them by synchronizing with each of my 2 computer(s) one of which has the Clie software and the other has the PalmOne software -- at least I could upload to the Palm from the CLIE desktop. I don't know why it stopped working, but the file structure looks the same. Why can't I just copy the file tree from my desktop that has the CLIE software and insert it under PALMONE on my laptop that has the PalmOne software?

Also there is something very strange about the data structures. Over the years it kept growing branches which have \"address\" and \"calendar\" files at different levels of the tree and the tree kept getting linger and longer. It also seems very fussy because if I copy the datebook file from one user to another it will not work. Where can I find out about the way data are structured and how I can export from one computer to another or from one Palm/Clie device to another?
