Please help - deleted destop info

I have a Clie SJ22. I let the battery run out and it deleted all my files on my Clie. I went to Hotsync it with my computer and the hotsync had the Clie over ride my Address book, Data Book, and Memo book on my desktop - even though those areas are labeled as \"synchronize\" in the HotSync Manager. Could someone please tell me what happened and is there is a way to recover the desktop files that the hotsync deleted. Thanks!
