Personal life: No Nokia

I no longer work for Nokia.

Before I joined Nokia I had formed an understanding that Nokia was using and would be using its patent portfolio defensively. Part of the basis of this was based on a public presentation at an EFF Finland meeting by a senior Nokia manager on the Nokia software patent strategy. Yesterday at a Nokia internal patent workshop I came to the conclusion that my understanding was not only wrong, but that the reality was quite horrible. After thinking about this for an evening I came to the conclusion that my conscience would not allow me to work for Nokia anymore.

I've been given word that a site devoted to the 770 will be starting. I might be ending this \"blog\" here and picking it up over there. Makes more sense for me to be at a place where the 770 is the center of attention.

I would - the majority of people here have little interest in Linux based PDAs, which given Tapwave's recent departure may well be one of the few options left open to people who despise Microsoft products...

Plus, I'm sick of being surrounded by people (and I use that term *very* loosely) who still have goddammed pimples.

I wrote him (no forums) to ask if Nokia wouldn't be a good candidate for purchasing Skype but he splashed water on that idea, saying it would piss off the companies like Verizon that buy Nokia phones to have Nokia competing with them.

Of course, the Skype purchaser may make for a great market to sell 770s to in bulk.
