Pocket Mahjongg Only for Hi-Res Cliés

Posted By: Ed on Thursday, January 03, 2002 3:59:25 PM

Pocket Mahjongg 1.0 is a new game that is exclusively for the high-resolution color Sony Cliés. It is a version of the classic game of Mahjongg solitaire featuring two different tilesets and multiple game layouts and backgrounds. It is available now for $15 and a 15-day free trial is available, too.

There are currently two different tilesets, one of which is the standard traditional set and the other is an alpha-numeric set designed to make it easy to see the variations.

Currently there are four different game layouts; however the company plans to release more in the future and updates will be free. For backgrounds, there are two different background images and there is also an option to simply use a single color as a background.

According to a company spokesperson, "It was a balancing act with this initial version between putting too many tilesets and backgrounds into the game and keeping prc size down to a reasonable level."

Pocket Mahjongg displays the number of games played, the number of wins, the winning percentage, and the top 10 times for each game layout.

or P-Jongg (formerly known as PalmJongg) is available for $12 and has a trial version. Works nicely on all Palms including hi-res on the HandEra 330.

P-Jongg works fine on any Palm. Pocket Mahjongg works on a hi-res Clie only.

I know P-Jongg works on any Palm, but like i said P-Jong is HIRES ONLY for HandEra 330, so it doesn't help for us Clie users. Pocket Mahjongg however is HIRES For the Clie, and is made only for the Clie's hires screen.

It's more beautiful than P-Jongg too :)

I think you mean "15 day trial" not 15 free trial

For those of you who wandered here w/o a hi-res Clie', other Mahjong (the tile matching kind, not the traditional Poker-like version) choices include one made by Astraware, http://www.astraware.com/all/default/mahjongg

or Freejongg, which as its name suggests, is freeware

It's interesting to see Sony's method of "overtaking" the handheld market: producing a new device every two months. I guess it's a winning strategy if you have the resources to change production facilities that easily.

I, by the way, still use a 710C and I'm loving it.

This hires version unfortunately, the boards are COMPLETELY RANDOM... so not all boards are solvable, so it's a little frustrating.

I like the other Mahjongg games where there's a couple thousand preconfigured boards and every single board is solvable.

Of course, you don't need to preconfigure the boards, as long as the algorithm for the board layout places each pair in a legal position to start with. Shouldn't be too hard to develop that way.

This game is really well done. This is the kind of thing I thought I'd see a lot more of when I got my clie two months ago. :( Where are more awesome games like this?

I hope Palm OS 5 is 320x320.
