The InnoPocket CompactFlash adapter is a Springboard module that allows users to plug CompactFlash memory cards into their Visors. It is under development now but the company is taking pre-orders. It will cost $40 and come with software to allow files to be transferred between the CF card and the Visor but not run apps directly on the card.

Possibly palm os upgrade

This Springboard will can store the information of a new palm OS i.e. palm OS 4.0 or still will have to buy Palm to can upgrade our PDA?

FYI, Smartmedia is not twice as expensive as Compact Flash. It's actually slightly cheaper at most places.

You are correct. I did a bit of research when writing the article and it turns out the two places I went to had horrible prices for SmartMedia cards. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Compact Flash prices?

Where is the author located? I just bought a 16 mb CF card for $40. SmartMedia cards are about the same. Memory Sticks appear to be about $20 more across the board; I feel sorry for anyone who got sucked into Sony's proprietary pit...

(This is in and around San Francisco, CA. Mail-order and internet-only shops have similar prices)

Why didn't you just buy a TRGPro?

The MatchBookDrive CF adapter will be shipped this month. Why would i want to wait for some other vaporware item.

The CF is just an addition to the other SpringBoards thus putting the TRGPro out of the running.

It seems to me that the price of the CF & SM cards are about the same.

There isn't going to be any upgrade to OS4 for Visor users, either on CF or otherwise. The best you can hope for is a RAM patch to add features.

In terms of the CF springboard, until there is a way to run apps off the CF card, Visor users are better with a regular 8mb springboard which is small, but at least directly addressable.

TRGPro does not run apps in CF off the card, merely moves them automatically from the CF memory to the main memory using AutoMover or some such s/w.
Kopsis is working on similar s/w for the visor. So you are always limited to the amount of memory available on the main unit. CF can be thought of as disk space where you can store your programs.

But in the case of the flash mem springboard (8M/16M), the memory is directly addressible, as you say, and therefore apps run directly off it, so in effect you have increased the memory of your device.
