odd...

I already have the Handspring Folding Cradle with 5 color faceplaces. It is serial or USB by means of a switch, it is currently in my office hooked to both an NT machine and my Mac OSX machine.

I have had this since, oh, October or so as I recall. Bought it at CompUSA. What is so new about it?

Is there a Belkin switchable usb/serial cradle for the Palm m500 series? Does it have universal voltage? I really wish Palm would create such a device.

One of the things we know that many of our readers are looking for is information on new products. They want to know what they are, what they cost, and where to get them. So that's what we're trying to give them.

This isn't the first time you or someone else has posted a comment accusing us of runnings ads as news. Every time, several people respond saying that they disagree, this is the exact sort of information they want to know. Here's an example:
www.palminfocenter.com/view_Story.asp?ID=2044&MODE=FLAT#15084

Maybe telling you what the general guidelines for posting product info will help. We only run articles on new products, new versions of major products, and big sales on major products. What makes a "major" product is a bit subjective but it is one that I judge a large percentage of Palm users would be interested in.

But if you disagree with what we're doing, don't just be negative, be positive. Tell us what we should be publishing instead.

If we run an article that isn't within our guidelines, it was a mistake. For example, Belkin said in a press release that the Visor travel cradle in this article was a new product. I'd never heard of it before so I believed them. It appears that their press release was a touch deceptive and the product was really only new _to them_. If I'd realized this at the time, I wouldn't have included it in the article. I can't keep in my head a complete list of every single Palm-related product so I sometimes miss things like this.

To set the record straight, I have never been paid to run anything as an article and I resent your accusation that I would that unethical. If this is truly the kind of people you believe we are, perhaps you would be better served by another Palm-related site.

Ed - please don't run ads as if they were news

While no-one should ever accuse an internet Palm info site of being unprofessional because they are trying to generate content this way, perhaps you could make a different section specifically for press releases.

That's half the reason I come to this board. I want to know about new products, and get some basic opinion of them.

What magazine doesn't have product announcements, product reviews, etc.?

I like it just the way it is. I like knowing that every morning I'll be greeted by the PIC with new product announcement, reviews, polls, etc etc. I keep coming back because of it.

In PC World (yes, I'm still a subscriber. I kinda still like it!), they review various software and hardware from different manufacturers. They don't charge those corporations for these reviews, but they do it for the customer who is reading the magazine. The customer wants to hear about new stuff and sometimes hear about it in depth.

How is this PIC any different than that magazine? Shouldn't the PIC be allowed to offer reviews and news to its customers?

I for one have enjoyed, currently enjoy, and will continue to enjoy the service that Ed and Ryan give to us, the way it has been.

I'd love to know what a site like this is meant to publish on a daily basis if new product releases are not allowed to ce considered as news. Perhaps they should print the articles without the company name ... that would be really useful!

Despite Ed's comment that he doesn't receive payment for the news items, so what if he did? What site are you providing for free that provides useful information?

Ed, keep up the great work and I for one appreciate your efforts. I actually come here to find out about new products and new software so you're giving me exactly what I want.

I really don't get this guy's beef...new product announcements (or rumors thereof) are one of the main reasons I visit this site every morning. If you don't like what you see here, then go somewhere else...

What folding keyboard?

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/23/2001 11:59:23 AM #
This keyboard is nowhere to be found on the Belkin web site.

That's the date they are shipping the items. They've announced it in this news article so they should have had their site updated to show pictures of the keyboard.

Press Releases as News

Swiftshadow @ 6/24/2001 11:03:38 AM #
I would also like to go on record saying that I see nothing wrong with the way PIC runs its news items. On the contrary, I keep coming back to PIC because I can count on hearing about the latest info regarding Palm software and hardware. I don't have the time to do searches or hit the major Palm manufacturers websites in search of info. And why should I when PIC does the job for me.

cases

Terry @ 6/25/2001 6:20:04 AM #
For those of you lookinq for a great clip case but to no avail. Allow me to make this sugqestion. I too was looking for a qaulity leather clip case for my palm V11x. The ones that I did find either lacked a zipper for complete enclosure or simply were made of a cheap leather imitation. I decided on Franklin Coveys palm wallet which is total qaulity inside and out. It allows for cash and credit cards and is made from a high gaulity leather. The only thing it lacked was the damn clip. I easily fixed this by going to Best Buy and buying an insant clip which adheres to the back of any case with velcro. By the way the Franklin Covey case is guaranteed for a whole year including the zipper. How's that for an ad !
