LandWare's HotLink USB Cable for the Palm m505, m500, and the m125 eliminates the need to travel with a bulky cradle or purchase an expensive travel kit. It allows users to HotSync and recharge a handheld just by plugging into a USB port on a desktop or laptop computer. It costs $20. -David Porfido

I.M. Anonymous @ 10/17/2001 10:20:36 AM #
Does anyone know where I can find a similar (USB for hotsyncing and charging & ~$20) cable for the Palm IIIc?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Since the IIIc isn't a native USB device, not likely. I'm not sure if it's possible to draw power through a serial port.

Ummm... how do you think the IIIc gets charged, then? Just like other rechargeable devices with serial connections, there's a lead or two that channels the power to the battery to charge it. There's no reason a USB cable can't be made for older rechargeable devices if the power supply from USB can be separated from the signal of the actual communication. I don't know enough about that to say for sure, but it sounds feasable to me.
