What about IMAP

This app looks nice, wish Palm would update Multimail PRO, it has great promise, too bad it's Palm that owns it now.

I agree, I have no idea why Palm isn't doing anything with MultiMail. It's a great e-mail client but in desparate need of updating. I tried contacting them once when I couldn't get one of my ISP Mail settings to work. They were less than helpful and totally ignorant of what I was asking. Seems Palm doesn't care to enhance MultiMail and debatable if they even support it, at least from my experience with them.

You might check out iambic Mail 2.1, which now has support for IMAP.

Actually, Palm is doing stuff with MultiMail -- it is the email client on the Palm i705, and they just spent a lot of time adapting it to work over the Mobitex network transport and with the Palm.net servers.

They just haven't updated the standalong version... maybe that's their next thing.

Hopefully now that there is PalmSource, MultiMail will come under the purview of the software division and do something with it. I would think the handheld market has reached a stage where emails are integral to a PDA feature set and Palm seems to be sitting on their butt with this.

What is the installed based of users for i705 compared to all the other Palms? Seems like they got their priorities wrong. Worst still, this seems to be Palm's habit. They don't seem to innovate or upgrade their products fast enough. They think that as along it is "fine" they'll leave it at that. Witness their m505 to m515 transition.

I tried Iambic for IMAP but there is no way to specify any other folders other than their defaults, which basically makes it useless to an IMAP user. Looks like it's tired old MultiMail for now..

Full IMAP is only used by a tiny minority of servers and not essential to the mobile user as such.

Sorry, that's not the way it works. PalmSource only controls the operating system, not all software. Palm itself still owns all the other software.

New Iambic mail does IMAP
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/15/2002 9:53:12 AM #
all is in the title ... I'll try it ASAP

I like iambic mail a lot, it's cheaper than this one and
integrated with action names ...

Mailer better than Multimail
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/17/2002 3:37:01 AM #
Last week I got my new Palm m130 and the Palm/Toshiba Bluetooth DS Card.

Multimail Professional 3.1 caused big troubles and crashed my palm repeatedly. I then installed Mailer from Electric Pocket and found it to be a very intuitive and Palm-friendly app.
It uses less precious RAM by restricting number and size of downloaded mails and - like MM - downloads the latest mails first, a great advantage over other mail apps.

Better than Eudora?

jpmahala @ 3/14/2002 1:05:21 PM #
Of all the Palm email clients that I have tried, I still haven't found one that works better or more reliably than Eudora for Palm. Is it just me, or am I missing something?

It does sound that Mailer has some innovative features though. They still can't beat Eudora's pricetag (free); but if Mailer is better, that won't stop me from buying it.

RE: Better than Eudora?
Mc @ 3/14/2002 1:08:35 PM #
I cannot agree more. I love Eudora. Works perfectly with Palm modem and syncs perfectly with many desktop mail apps. Love it.

RE: Better than Eudora?
cscullion @ 3/14/2002 1:26:19 PM #
But Eudora doesn't work with Palm's Address Book. You have to keep two separate address entries for each contact, one in Eudora, and one in Palm Address Book.

Eudora for Palm OS works find on my QCP-6035 -- when I tap the "To:" field, I get a lookup form that is hooked into the Palm OS Address Book. Its just on the desktop where there is no integration.

I am so happy to hear that there is some integration with the Palm Address Book. So, the only thing missing is synchronization between the Palm Address Book and Eudora on the desktop? Sounds like it's almost a workable solution, then.

The only thing I would like in Eudora is a feature allowing it to dial into your ISP at preset intervals to retrieve mail. This would make it more similar to a Blackberry.

RE: Better than Eudora?
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/14/2002 2:23:06 PM #
I've tried downloading the Eudora software from several sources (Eudora, CNET, etc.), but the EXE complains something about it being a 16 bit file and refuse to execute under Win XP.

Is there something wrong with my computer, or is it the file? Please help me out.

RE: Better than Eudora?
jontz @ 3/14/2002 3:39:10 PM #
Windows XP is based on code from Windows 2000. Windows 2000 will not run 16-bit programs, only 32 bit. The same is true of Windows XP. You need to get the windows 2000 version if there is no XP version and it should work fine.

RE: Better than Eudora?
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/14/2002 4:24:32 PM #
jontz, you are wrong. windows 2000 will run 16 bit apps. duh - my name is Jontz Darsh!

RE: Better than Eudora?
bcombee @ 3/14/2002 4:51:44 PM #
If you can't run the installed, just go to http://www.eudora.com/internetsuite/download/ and download the Linux version -- its just a ZIP file, and you can handle manually syncing the software to your device.

Simple SMS from Visual IT supports Bluetooth
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/15/2002 10:11:38 AM #
REVIEW: Visual IT Simple SMS V2.0

Now fully supports a Bluetooth link. If you have a Bluetooth enabled phone you don’t even need to take your phone out of your case/pocket/handbag (or wherever it is currently hiding) to send and receive SMS messages. If you don’t yet have a Bluetooth link Simple SMS works just as well with Infrared or cable. Whatever your current or future connection method, Simple SMS can handle it.

RE: Better than Eudora?
gadgetq @ 3/17/2002 10:27:13 AM #
Eudora does look better. I'm using a Palm m505 and a Nokia 8290 phone IR port. MultiMail was too slow and difficult to use more than one account. I'd like to try Eudora but I can't tell if it supports vfs and if I can use my expansion slot to either run it or store things. I'm tight for space on the m505, not ready to buy an m515, and I use Mapopolis which has meant keeping 2-4MB free to load them. Anyone using Eudora on their Palm m500 series?

Syncing with outlook express 6.0

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/14/2002 2:39:24 PM #
Will it sync with outlook express 6.0? if yes, will it specify which username of outlookexpres it will sync with? i like multimail but it looks dry and yeah..still 3.1.

It is a stand-alone email client. designed to do email entirely on the handheld. It isn't a handheld client for a desktop application. It has no conduit or desktop version.

Tried it - liked it - registered it!

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/14/2002 4:38:37 PM #
Downloaded Mailer - like it a lot. I spent the money & registered it. I have been using (buggy) iambic Mail - and was using Multimail Pro (both registered) before iambic's offering.

Mailer looks & works like a good Palm app should - good use of graphics - simple setup - easy to use - no fuss. Yes, no attachment support - but this is great for on the road use. That's where the Palm platform kicks serious butt.

IMHO - this is a killer app.

perhaps you have an older version?

Iambic mail is simple and has the same feature than mailer

Send mail on sync?

sremick @ 3/14/2002 6:34:42 PM #
I have an m505. I need an app that will send outgoing mail on sync without requiring the use of Eudora or Outlook on the PC. I realize this would require an intelligent conduit. Will Mailer do this?

RE: Send mail on sync?
GregGaub @ 3/14/2002 6:51:56 PM #
Nope, you'll need something that lets your palm access the net through your cradle. I think what you're looking for is MochaPPP. You can then have your Palm send mail directly from Mailer, through your cradle, through your PC's connection.

-Greg

RE: Send mail on sync?
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/15/2002 4:14:26 AM #
...Although Mochappp will not work with a Palm USB cradle connection (no ppp daemon for Win that utilises the USB port).

Your posting is, in opposite to the extremly useful mailer, totally obsolete and "useless" -

You did not try - you just shout like a uncultivated beggar to refined bypassers.

There are guys around trying to smear everybody and anything in their lazy time in the slums - it seems to become a cult of the underdog.

Don't be mad, Joe. I just tell the truth.
In our country, most of mails are consisted of multi-part content. I try to receive mail by using TRGPro+PHS but fail because I can't read the mail of content. So, ..... I just tell the truth.

Mailer

I.M. Anonymous @ 3/15/2002 8:00:04 AM #
Downloaded Mailer today, and its a cracking product for basic mail sending/receiving. It dials up my local ISP to pick up mail there, then automatically goes off to my other mail address I've set up, and gets mail from there! With Multimail I had to dial each one in turn. Very simple to set up (I was sure I hadn't done enough to make it all work!), but the Bluetooth SD card talks fine to my Nokia 6310, it seems quicker than Multimail as well (could be my imagination there though).

RE: Mailer
I.M. Anonymous @ 3/15/2002 8:53:53 AM #
How does Mailer compare to One-Touch Mail? I've been using that with my VisorPhone for about 8 months and it seems to have all the same features as this "new" Mailer. I love it. I tried MultiMail and could not figure out what all the fuss was there, either. Somebody explain to me what I'm missing, please!

The Ultimate E Mail Program for PALM !!!

mykul @ 3/18/2002 12:17:38 AM #
I would love to find out if anyone has found the ultimate palm email program (one that can handle folders). I would love to sync my palm with my computer at work in the morning and then throughout the day at times of waste, (i.e. in the car during traffic, at lunch, waiting on hold), I can read, delete, and MOVE the messages from my main inbox to the folders in outlook where they belong...then when I am done I resync my palm and all the updates are made on my desktop too. I know that this is possible with a PocketPC but I love my palm and love the Palm OS...I just really could use this function.

If any of ya'll know anything on the subject please either email me at mykul@mykul.com or just post back to this site.

:-)

Thank you in advance for all your help!
