Comments on: Yahoo! and Palm team up

Yahoo! and Palm today announced an agreement to bundle a suite of Yahoo!'s Web-based services with the Palm(TM) family of handheld computers, including all current Palm III(TM), Palm V(TM) and Palm VII(TM) series products. According to the press release Yahoo! will bundle it's Mail and Messenger programs with all current Palm devices, I would also expect to see Yahoo calendar and address book synchronization tied into the Palm Desktop. The agreement marks the first time Yahoo! has bundled its Web-based services with handheld computers.

Messanger? why?

Yahoo needs better press release writers. I can't imagine bundling messanger with anything but a Palm VII... What good would "instant email alerts" be if they only showed up at hotsync?

More likely, Yahoo's calendar w/truesync & some offline version of their web mail service will be seen on all Palm fronts, and messanger on the VII.

better available

I downloaded the software and must admit I like the way this is set up with Yahoo. I also use Avantgo and the two programs work together just fine. This si a good match.

It won't matter how good Thinair is once the masses get their hands on the Yahoo crap. Force feeding is what people want. It's not how good a product is, it's how well it's marketed.

I am not sure what you mean by 'force feeding', but this is a very good project for Yahoo!. There is no good solution for us modemless users to get our email from an outside provider without using an intermediate conduit (ccMail, Outlook, etc.). If Yahoo! gives the average PalmIII or PalmV user a conduit directly through POP to their Yahoo! email, all the better. Right now, I use Outlook to download my Yahoo! mail, then Sync. This will give me the opportunity to get rid of another bloated Microsoft program.
