Comments on: Nashville PUG Final Meeting Tomorrow

This Saturday October 13th marks the final meeting for the Nashville Palm Users Group. While most other PUGs have long since called it quits years ago, NPUG has been going strong with monthly meetings for the past 8 years. NPUG Director Michael Ashby remarked, "It's been a good run and we've certainly had a lot of fun along the way, but the time has come to 'shut our doors'. But don't be sad, because NPUG is going out with a bang!" You can find the meeting details here.

The Party is Over

LiveFaith @ 10/12/2007 1:55:19 PM # Q
Folks, the party is over.

Office Depot has a dangling display of 3 Palms buried at the end of the large GPS section. The T|X & TE2 are empty, leaving only the half functioning Z22 to be liquidated before the GPS section just swallows up the last 18" of shelf space.

Way to go NPUGgers. You held on until the end.

Oh but wait, in only 18 months (1 century in tech time)Palm will assuredly have a new Palm OS over Linux stable and ready. Maybe Foleo II, Veld, or the rest of the Mobile Managers? Maybe even WiFi(b)? The sky is the limit folks!

Anyway, it's sad to watch the corporate fleecing of what could have been so great. Just reminiscing the days where the Palm IIIe,x,xe and Vx graced the same spotlighted shelf space as the iPod touch does today. :-(

I feel your pain and I think most of NPUG would say the same thing.

There's so many missed opportunities that have occurred in Palm's tumultuous history and we were hanging on in the hopes that there would be some light at the end of the tunnel, but after 4 years of waiting... well you know the rest.

I still love Palm OS and would be the first in line to buy a new product if there ever is one that's compelling and inventive. I'm still a die hard fan and always will be.

Congrats NPUG for the long run

Michael congrats on the long run. It has been a pleasure supporting you and the other PUG groups along the way. As we have seen the market is a different place than the years that Palm dominated the market. We at have also made many changes in the products we carry just to keep up with the market. Michael if I know you like I do you have something new in the works. Take care and you are always welcome to crash at my house when you are in the area.

I can't thank you enough for all your support over the years. NPUG may be full of rabid Palm OS fans, but if you ask me, it's the economy surrounding Palm OS that has helped it survive as long as it has. Sure Palm made/makes great devices, but it's the programmers and vendors such as yourself that really made all the difference.

And I'm not just blowing sunshine here. Time and time again, supporting companies like GetHighTech, or Natara, or Pimlico (and the list could go on and on), were the real engine behind not only our humble little PUG, but the industry as a whole. We certainly wouldn't have lasted 8 years had it not been for companies like yours.

Thank you.

Sorry. Napalm got nuth'n on Jules.

And Palm would be better off it it had excercised a bit of that vengence in the last 5 years.

Funny timing for the LAPUG

PalmAddict @ 10/14/2007 8:01:56 PM # Q
Funny thing is that on that same day, Oct. 13, the Los Angeles Palm Users Group reformed and had their first meeting, in almost a couple of years since their last disbanding, due to the demand for meetings again. What does LA know that the rest of the country doesn't?
