I bought my first slingbox almost two years ago because it touted a palm remote player "coming soon". In the meantime I've had to watch enviously as my 700w brethren showed off their Sling Windows Mobile clients. Well, finally the beta is here and so far I'm really pleased with the performance. It may have been a long time coming, but now that it's here it was worth the wait ;)

Oh, I should mention I'm using it on a Sprint 700p. The framerate is great as is the picture quality (I watched an entire Chelsea soccer game off my DirecTV DVR and had no trouble reading the tiny score and time display overlays - should be great when football season starts for watching Direct Ticket remotely!). The biggest quirk right now is probably a limitation of the Palm OS's lack of true multitasking - when an alarm or alert goes off the SlingPlayer stops; once you clear the alert it automatically reconnects back to your remote Sling device. Would be nice if the audio kept playing in the background while you cleared the alert.

Other than that, no real quibbles. The interface works well and there's even an option to "letterbox" the display if you're watching a native 16:9 HD program. You can use the D-pad to navigate the DVR menus (it's actually easier than controling via the PC-version's virtual remote). My Slingbox is only hooked up to my DirecTV HR20 HD DVR via S-VHS so I didn't test the capability of switching between inputs, but the option is there.

Help!! I can't get the Sling Mobile to work on my Treo 700p. I have the correct finder ID and even tried by IP address. But no connection! Anyone else had problems? Any thoughts?

1) can you access it from a laptop remotely? If not you need to configure you slingbox for remote access. Some people have forgotten to do that.
2) The Finder-ID server has been having a bit of trouble lately. How often have you tried?
3) Are you getting a good signal where you're at? Are you getting an error message?
4) try calling slingmedia's support. You can also try posting for help at slingcommunity.com They are a helpful bunch and have slingmedia employees posting there on occasion.
