Comments on: Boxwave Releases First Extended 755p Battery

The first 3rd party battery solution for the new Treo 755p has just hit the market. Boxwave's ElectraSpan Extended Battery is specifically designed to accomodate the battery well on the Treo 755p that is deeper than on its Treo 680 and 750 stablemates.

This high capacity rechargeable Li-Ion battery has a 2400mAh capacity, offering an 800mAh boost over the stock 755p battery. Boxwave's web site is advertising this as a 200% power boost over the stock 755p battery but this is not at all correct. Still, since CDMA phones sip energy more greedily than their GSM counterparts, this battery will come as welcome news to current and prospective 755p owners alike.

Cool. More rumpshaker action, 755 style. Man, when is someone going to make themselves a mint by offering a high capacity 680/750 or even 755 battery with the same form factor? I know my 680 dollars are waiting.

Well, I suspect Seidio will come out pretty soon with a marginally improved 680/750 battery that fits under the stock door. I am thinking 1500 or maybe 1600mAh, tops. I think someone is currently selling a 1300mAh replacement battery but who's to say that's just not a very generous stretch of the battery's actual capacity? ;-)

As for the 755p, I think I'd actually be content with an 1900mAh or 2000mAh under the standard battery door.

reset hole?

joad @ 5/30/2007 11:45:29 AM # Q
In Palm's continued design brilliance, they totally *REMOVED* the reset hole, hence requiring us to pry off the battery cover and yank out the battery everytime it freezes up. (When the "F" will they just put a simple reset hole near the serial port like iPaqs did years ago?).

If these "rumpshakers" have to come with a battery-cover backpack anyway, I wonder if there's a way to make up for Palm's screwup and design a reset hole INTO the battery (disconnecting the power from the Treo)? If so, they could build a hole into the cover and this problem would be minimized.

By the way... $90 retail for the battery?!? I think I'll go with the leftover 1800mAh battery from my 700p and some duct tape!

Hey, welcome to Nokiaville! That's what I had to do to reset the Anti-Internet Tablet!

I guess Palm is learning from the stupid moves of other manufacturers and integrating their mistakes into the Treo. Now THAT'S "innovation."

Next Treo: no touchscreen!!
