Joystick for Visor Coming Soon

As part of positioning the Visor as a gaming platform, Handspring announced today that they will be releasing the GameFace, a faceplate with joystick and buttons that fits on the front of the Visor. It will come with a free game, Astraware's Zap!2000. Versions for most Visors should be available by the end of this year, while one that fits the Prism is expected early next year. The GameFace joystick will support most Palm OS-enabled games and cost $40.

Okay.. That just looks too funny..

BUT, it really is a good idea.

Uhh, ok

Why did they choose that layout?
I can think of possible designs that would allow the layout to have both buttons on the same side.

The why is easy.

It's just an overlay with no electronics under it. So, the address book up/down and tasks make up the directionals and the other 2 buttons are the action keys.

If it were a device that plugged into the port on the bottom of thevisor, they could have made it look more like a nintendo gameboy.

Gaming bundle..

Handspring should bundle a Prism with joystick& Zap2000 for $499. That's a serious blow to iPaq's face, folks.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Nintendo. Their 56-colour player has met its match.

It's a start

Handspring tells everyone they want to push the Prism as a gaming device, but they still haven't fixed the obvious problems with the control layout. Couldn't 'someone' build a Palm device with a 4-way controller and 2 buttons? It really isn't that much different, but improves game playing by 1000%

$40!?!

$40 for a piece of plastic?!? (remember, the game is "free")

I can buy REAL analog joystick with decent force-feedback for my PC for that much...

yet another add on that's priced WAAAAY too high.

Then don't buy it, Beavis....

is it worth?

$40 for that?
I will spend my time and money on the pc game.
the game on palm is just for killing time.
I think so.

No ... You're right...It's not like it's a gameboy or anything..... I'd rather spend 40 bucks on a real game for a real platform or console.

Buttons still wearing out?

I.M. Anonymous @ 10/18/2000 12:49:18 PM #
I stopped doing heavy gaming (well, relatively heavy gaming) on my Visor cause I'd seen so many complaints of Visor buttons wearing out prematurely after playing arcade games on it.

I'm assuming Gameface's pad and buttons just pushes down on the existing buttons and the wearing will still occur. Wouldn't that still be a concern?

My God

In my opinion, I would like to buy a GameBoy for $40.

What about Palm devices?

Are they developing a similar gadget for Palms - there is a much bigger market?
