$50 Rebate Coming for Visor Deluxe

Handspring is about to start offering a $50 rebate on its Visor Deluxe, according to a Cnet article. This will reduce the Visor to $200, the same price at which Palm is expected to release the m105. The rebate will begin this Sunday and run through April.

Handspring is clearly trying to steal some of Palm's thunder during the launch of the m105, which is probably going to be next week. By offering a device with many of the same features plus the Springboard slot at the same price they will probably have some success.

Yup, this was inevitable...

They had to do this. The Visor Deluxe at $249 wasn't at a competitive price after Palm dropped the IIIxe price and now with the M105 coming. It was too close to the Platinum in price too. What do you think? Price drop of Visor to $149? That's gotta happen too.

It's good, but...

Glad to see HS cuts the price of the older Visor Deluxe to grasp the share of m105. I think it will be more competitive if this handheld is equipped with OS3.5.2, too!

aren't you afraid This all may becaused because m$ is eating palm os's share or that palm/handsrping are pushing out old technology so they can bring new techs?

Afraid of what?

All companies push out old technology for new ones by reducing the prices of the old ones and I don't think it is because of M$. They don't compete in the low-end PDA market.

Not everyone wants the latest and greatest cutting edge technology, except for the technogeeks...I'm one of them. :)

m105/visor deluxe

this is a good move on visor's part, since its much superior to the m105 that's now out... and yes, it is "out", i work @ staples here in canada and its on our system, 299$cdn (80$ cheaper than the visor deluxe) so w/ the 50$US rebate it'll make it a much better buy than what palm's offering. =)

Visor not to be afraid !!

I don't think Visor should be afraid of Palm m105, as it the same look of m100. One of the advantage of Visor ls it's good looking when it compare with palm m100. I think most of the palm user will still be attracted by the colourful looking and bigger screen. so,I think Visor will still be the market leader of lower-price palm device.

Well, attractiveness to a person is such an individual thing. Sure, there are some colors to choose from with the Visor Deluxes, but that's also one big selling point for the m100/105 device, the changeable faceplate. There are several very nice faceplates available, and there are going to be a TON more on the way. 3rd party accessory manufacturers will be coming out with cool and wild faceplates for people. If I had an m105, I'd be dying for a cool faceplate, like flames, or my favorite artist (music, art, whatever), or even some cool anime prints. The possibilities are endless. Most people have no qualms about snapping off and on faceplates, but they're not about to void their warrantees by changing the shell on a Visor, even if it's relatively easy.

As for the Visor Deluxe, it has a BIG drawback, and that is OS 3.1h. That OS is so old, it doesn't even have IR to modem support. If you want to do ANYTHING on that thing with a net connection, it pretty much HAS to be with a Springboard module, and as people say, those don't come cheap. What I don't understand is why Handspring doesn't start making Deluxes with the new OS. Hell, even 3.3 is way better than 3.1 for chrissakes.

Visor

It's the right move. I still wish they would drop the price on the Prism as well -- you're creeping up near the price of Pocket PCs, which appear to offer more out of the box. Granted, I love the Palm OS's simplicity and the Springboard slot, but the prices of the springboards are much more than I anticipated.

Also, are there rumors of a Palm V-style Visor?
