Omnisky Rolls Out New Services

At the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) conference this week, Omnisky demonstrated their wireless e-mail and Internet service running on the new Kyocera Smartphone.

In addition, they also introduced a new software enhancement to the OmniSky service that makes it easy for mobile professionals to wirelessly access their corporate Microsoft Outlook e-mail while on the go.

The service, Os CorporateLink software, lets OmniSky subscribers remotely -- and securely -- access their corporate e-mail from behind their corporate firewall. It is available now and can be downloaded for free from the OmniSky Web site.

What on earth does this mean?

Is OmniSky going into the voice phone business? Are they offering a flat-rate alternative for data, working with some voice carrier (Sprint? Verizon?)? I just got a Smartphone from Verizon, and I'm ecstatic with it, but if OmniSky offered data access for a flat rate, that would be mighty tempting.

That reminds me, I have to call OmniSky to cancel my service.
