Omnisky for M505

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/26/2001 6:56:36 AM #
I can't believe it takes Omnisky this long to get service and Minstrel modems for the M505. Palm and Omnisky have both messed up on this. I used a Vx before I bought the M505 and have not accessed Omnisky since.

The biggest thing is Omnisky dropping the ball on this one. They just went into BETA less than a week ago.
I don't see the big problem with supporting old technology.

The modem is the same as the one for the Palm Vx just in a new wrapper.

They also should have been able to support OS 4 since it would also be comming out for the other Palms this summer.

I was at TECHXNY today. Novatel had the modem on display. Novatel stated they have been shipping to Omnisky. Omnisky said they weren't. The Palm folks didn't know it was there. What a joke!

I'd wait

I know this is off the original subject, but...

There was a small article of that camera in a recent issue of Popular Science. Very cool if you like gadgets. If they upped the resolution to at least 3 megapixels I'd buy it. :)

A review ??

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/26/2001 8:35:00 AM #
Mr Ed,

Didn't you talked some times ago about a review of the Palmpix for the 500 ???

I am waiting for it before buying AUG (another useful gadget).

Thx in advance

With the rush of news from TECHXNY, I decided to hold off on the review. There's already more Palm news than I can publish and the review would just get lost in the deluge.

Without giving too much away, I'd strongly suggest you wait to buy the PalmPix until you've read the review.

Mr. Ed???

Ok. All together now:

"Hello, I'm Mr. Ed"

A horse is a horse of course of course,
and no one can talk to a horse of course.
That is of course unless the horse
is the famous Mister Ed!

Go right to the source and ask the horse.
He'll give you the answer that you'll endorse
He's always on a steady course.
Talk to Mister Ed!

People yakkity-yak a streak
and waste your time of day,
but Mister Ed will never speak
unless he has something to say!

A horse is a horse of course of course,
and this one'll talk 'til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
Well, listen to this...

"I am Mister Ed!"

Sorry Ed... I just had to do it. But now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head all day long. ;-)

And now that you've got that d*mned tune stuck in my head, we must sing the new[1], improved[2], Internet[3] version:

A host is a host,
from coast to coast.
And no one will talk to a host that's close,
unless the host that isn't close
is busy, hung, or dead...

[1] = only in relative terms.
[2] = well...
[3] = Usenet, actually.

Other ISP's

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/26/2001 8:30:49 AM #
Has anyone used any of the other ISP's listed at Novatel's website?

I am waiting to get the M505 connected and don't want to wait 3 months or more for Omnisky.

Be careful. GoAmerica has a clause [for their unlimited plan] in their contract for data charges caused by software they do not themselves provide. OmniSky does not.

m505 PalmPix

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/26/2001 8:50:53 AM #
Unfortunatly, the m505 PalmPix still has a B&W viewfinder mode.

I'm just hoping Kodak updates their software for the Palm Pix III to work correctly with the Handera 330.

It takes pictures, but the preview screen doesn't display your viewpoint correctly. It would also be nice to have integrated access to the SD card like to 505 version has.

If anyone has a Handera and a Palm Pix, could you please help my efforts by sending a pestering email to Kodak???

Thanks

I saw a post somewhere that HandEra was working with Kodak on getting the screen problems taken care of. I don't know if they are also including writing directly to external media. That would be sweet if they did. :)

Would anyone having a Palmpix for the m500 series post a review of your device and also some sample shots?

Minstrel M500

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/26/2001 12:50:09 PM #
I called Omnisky to inquire about Novatel's new unit, and the sales drone let slip that "we haven't yet standardized on Novatel's hardware for the Palm M500 series".

When I asked if that meant they were considering other CDPD modem manufacturers to carry their service for the M500 units, she said "I can't comment on that at this time".

Take it for what it's worth. She was not even aware that Novatel had officially announced availability.

Called and talked to the sales department and they said it has not been released as of yet.

Why all the negative?

I.M. Anonymous @ 6/27/2001 6:23:07 AM #
No matter what is said I will remain loyal to Palm. I use my IIIc daily with no complaint. I can't wait to upgrade to the M505! It fits my needs.
