Basejet Offers Wireless Mail with Attachments

Basejet is is a wireless email application that is now in development. It can connect with Outlook, Notes, POP3, and IMAP4 mail servers and forward messages to a wireless handheld. It offers HTML and Rich Text support as well as the ability to read attachments in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat formats. Basejet is currently a public beta; the company hopes to have it available around the middle of May. Pricing has not yet been determined.

Basejet is made up of an an application, called the Launcher, that runs either on a desktop PC or a local server. This forwards email to a Basejet server, called the Transporter, which handles the conversion of the atachmants and then forwards the emails to the handheld app, called Basejet Mail.

Basejet can exchange wireless email with the Treo, Samsung i300, Kyocera Smartphone.

The desktop app can also transfer emails between the handheld and the PC during each HotSync.

What about sending?

I.M. Anonymous @ 4/18/2002 2:19:15 PM #
Would this program allow you to attach a document from Docs to Go or Quickoffice or something and SEND that? Or is it strictly for reading attachments only?

If you would like to send attachments, you should look at Corsoft’s Aileron:

Aileron works with QuickOffice... too bad I'm already a registered user of MiniCalc, DTG Professional, and WordSmith. (sigh)

Altema,

WordSmith does support Corsoft's Aileron as well... Check out this link:

Thanks for the info! Now I just have to deal with the spreadsheet side (learn ANOTHER one) and also hope for a way to send SimpleSketch images. That last one won't be easy, as SimpleSketch saves everything in a combined file.

I know you must be curious why I'd need a graphic, but I email room sketches for network projects to our cable vendors. SimpleSketch creates a standard Windows bitmap on the desktop machine. I already created a ThinkDb database which will export all the project data with two taps of the stylus. A simple paste to email, and the only thing missing is the sketch as an attachment. There are other graphics apps, but I can't find another that will let me draw triangles properly for my network sketches...

Yes, I am sure that a promise made by an anonymous individual carries a lot of weight with developers.

doesn't work

I.M. Anonymous @ 4/18/2002 3:34:02 PM #
I just installed the program (both palm and PC part) and the thing doesn't work... it hangs my palm m515... probably because it's beta... I also do not know why should I run their "launcher" on my windows PC, if I am using POP3 mail server?? hmm... maybe it's just me and my IQ?
RE: doesn't work
I.M. Anonymous @ 4/18/2002 5:47:14 PM #
It's Because your PC won't send the mails to your M505 ***wirelessly,*** so you have to ask BaseJet mail server to do the work for you.

Yes, it's your IQ that has the problem.

instead of insulting someone, why not keep your pie hole shut. if it only works wirelessly, how does it work with any PPC device? if it only works wirelessly, why show a color screen shot. even if the desktop launcher/redirector only works for a wireless device, it shouldn't lock up other devices.

Well, it DOES seem like a complicated process for the whole thing. The original poster can't be blamed for being confused...

Step 1: Desktop PC grabs mail from POP3 server.
Step 2: Desktop PC loads Basejet launcher.
Step 3: Basejet launcher on desktop re-sends mail to Basejet server.
Step 4: Basejet server converts attachments.
Step 5: Basejet server sends mail to wireless device.

A whole lot of work just so that your brother-in-law can send you a Word document filled with "Top 10 Reasons why Beer is better than Women"

PS: There's a color screenshot because I believe the Samsung PalmPhone is color.

I'm the original poster... Thanks for the kind words and support folks! :) Now, the most interesting part is, that my Palm stoped responding after about two minutes of verifiying something (late hour here, can't remeber wat was it). Of course I put all my POP3 info into both Palm and Pc software... And yes, I tried to connect to internet with my Nokia 7110, which works just okay for MultiMail etc... Anyway I already deleted the programy from my palm...

Worked fine with Word docs for me. And although it works w/ POP3 well, I can't configure it correctly to handle Outlook/Exchange settings. Otherwise this looks like a great program to get semi-always-on email.

The app is supposed to work by hotsync as well as wireless. If it isn't working for you right now, it's probably because it is a public BETA. The term 'beta' kind of implies that it's not yet ready for primetime. It's certainly nothing to get worked up about. Send a bug report to the company (if you have a beta, then you have instructions on how to do that) and they'll fix it before they release it. That's the whole point of having public betas. So that people can try it, break it and then help the company responsible fix it. It's probably conflicting with some other conduit (or combination of conduits) on your palm. Something that the company hasn't tested themselves yet.

It also doesn't have hi-res, and after trying it on my Clie, my screen is now screwed up. I tried disabling and reenabling hires assist...still screwed up. Even after a soft reset.
