I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 9:59:58 AM #
i hope they eventually end up on the site....the n760 was/is an awsome PDA...$250 is a great price for it.
RE: sonystyle says n760 unavailable..
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 12:57:59 AM #
Yes, N760 is indeed the best sony PDA I think.
NR is heavier and has shorter battery life.
T series has bad buttons and short batt life
RE: sonystyle says n760 unavailable..
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 9:05:53 AM #
Yup, I still have mine and love it so much I had the memory upgraded (the only thing I needed that it didn't have). It should last me quite a while longer. Hard to believe you can get one for $250 considering what I paid for mine when they were first released!

I just bought a new M500 at ReturnBuy Direct for $119. It is an Epocrates branded model with a blue case, but has a 1 year Palm warranty, and some medical software to boot. Works for me.

Same here. I love the blue case--much classier look, and a great price.

doctors gadgets sucks

to do anything at all I have to register. even before I see any content. forget that. at least show me something so I can make an informed choice to sign up or not. has doctor chris ever heard of anonymous cowards?
Start your own
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 1:54:31 PM #
I don't mean that as a rip on you. I actually really mean it. If a site isn't friendly to use then get those interested in the information together to share and provide info and put a site up. It really is cheap and there is no reason to put up with tricks.
I know, they need to make money some how, but if it turns people away that isn't the way to do it.
Do a release here if you get a home site and want people to add what they have tried, there is a lot of users out there that would like to help others and get help in return.
I don't have time to start my own
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 4:48:00 PM #
Which is why I'd be interested in Chris' site, but I'm not registering blind either. I get too much spam already to start giving my e-mail address away to everyone and his brother.

Ringo on Visorphone?

digilaw @ 8/1/2002 12:14:49 PM #
I just checked out the manufacturer's website and I couldn't find an answer to this. Does Ringo work on Visorphones?

RE: Ringo on Visorphone?
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 12:40:46 PM #
I'm afraid not, the VisorPhone doesn't give the events that the Treo does, so I haven't been able to get it to work on the VP... sorry!

Not that I own a Treo to use this software, but for some reason I love when the people who write software repond to posts made about their product on PIC. That's one of the reasons I use datebk, I feel like the author pays attention to the requests of its users.

New Palm Desktop 4.1

gvbfan @ 8/1/2002 1:56:30 PM #
I downloaded the new desktop this morning and haven't noticed too many differences. There are more themes and you can edit memos without having th bring them up on a separate screen.

Not too much difference but no new inconveniences either.

RE: New Palm Desktop 4.1
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 3:39:00 PM #
The big change is in the internal framework, which is now open to 3rd party developers. Give it some time and you'll start to see some interesting add-ons for the Desktop, which wasn't possible before.
don't forget Mac please Palm
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 4:38:11 PM #
Oh how I wish there was more conduited software for us Mac folks. Yea, I know it's a numbers game. But Jobs get up there and said he (Apple) and Palm were working together on the future of a connected world. What ever that means to you and me.

Actually, Apple did annoucne iSync to work with Palm OS handhelds.

RE: Dell PPC big blow to Palm :(
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 2:47:20 PM #
I agree. Dell should be a good help to PPC.

But it is hard to tell the impact until
we see the product. Dell does know how to
sell things. They really know how to sell
cheap and ok stuff.

If Palm can sign up 2 more partners like Sony,
Palm OS will do well no matter what.

let's start a Palm buyout rumor!

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 4:12:05 PM #
According to the Mercury News, the inhibitory tax consequences of acquiring Palm, Inc. expire this week (one should check the prospectus to verify this). Because of the way Palm was spun-off from 3Com, a company that tried to buy Palm last week would have to pay several billion USD in taxes. As of right now, the market cap is way under a billion. Both Sony and IBM have the cash to do this, given the depressed stock price. Any other candidates?

Maybe the reverse stock split approval was just a smoke-screen for the company going into play...

RE: let's start a Palm buyout rumor!
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 4:56:21 PM #
No one would want to buy Palm.
Let's all buy 100 shares and oust Behanamou!!!

RE: let's start a Palm buyout rumor!
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 6:12:17 PM #
I'd be happy if Sony bought Palm Source!
RE: let's start a Palm buyout rumor!
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 6:53:06 PM #
Yup, doesn't make sense for Sony to buy Palm (the hardware company). IBM, may be?

Most probably Carl will use the bonus & pay he earned as the Palm CEO to buy back Palm! Then he will have a chance to proof himself.

Or Bill Gates will use his daughter's name to buy Palm using 0.0001% of his portfolio, to avoid being sued.

Rumor and speculation rocks!

What the he** does this have to do with ANYTHING in the article?

Refurbished Products are junk

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 6:35:52 PM #
My advice is to never buy Refurbished ANYTHING. You get what you pay for and Refurbished have a tendency to have further defects much greater than new.

ALWAYS GO NEW!

RE: Refurbished Products are junk
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 7:01:20 PM #
shut up. they are not junk when you buy direct from the manufacturer. the refurbed clies come with a warrenty and phone support. so whats wrong with buying one? you can get the n760, which has awsome battery life, mp3 player, a color hi-res screen, and better buttons than those found on the t series...all for $250 bucks, JUST BECAUSE IT WAS PRE OWNED...no big deal.
RE: Refurbished Products are junk
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 7:06:59 PM #
caveat emptor

RE: Refurbished Products are junk
Token User @ 8/1/2002 8:25:16 PM #
Not all refurbs are "returns" ... many are units that didn't pass the original manufacturing control standards, and needed to be repaired before shipping. Those units do not go out as new units, they are listed as refurb. A lot of refurb equipment is actually more reliable than the "sealed box" equivalent because the testing for it to pass is at a higher level.

Caveat emptor is good advice, but this is not a second hand car with banana peel in the gear box, it is a refurbished unit from Sony with full "as new" support.

Sony T415

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/1/2002 8:56:06 PM #
I'd only buy the refurb T415 if the process includes a better screen. If not, $150 is about 3 times too much for this thing, hi-res or no hi-res.
RE: Sony T415
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 12:59:08 AM #
Ermm, the T415 screen is way better than my iPAQ 3970.
RE: Sony T415
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 1:31:27 AM #
%^@#%^#!! I am sooo tired of people dissing the 415 screen as though they're being forced to buy it. I happen to like it. If you don't, well, uh...don't buy it. And quit complaining about how much you hate the screen. Many happy owners don't really care. As for any unhappy owners, they should've returned 'em.
RE: Sony T415
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 6:23:53 AM #
You may as well buy one of those $10-$40 organizers at Wal-Mart. Sorry, but it's absurd to think a monochrome screen should require a backlight to look muddy at best. The one or two of you that keep posting such a thing is acceptable are a tiny minority, not many.

Today it is pretty much impossible to see a T415 in real life. Almost nobody bought them and they were in stores for a very short time. Why? Because the screen is awful. I wouldn't want someone to buy one sight unseen, and expect to get a screen even half as good as any other monochrome screen out there. They would be disappointed.

RE: Sony T415
I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 7:15:20 AM #
The t415 was a disgrace. How a company like Sony could ever release something like this is beyond belief. But they did. And they marketed it on the basis of a "paperwhite" screen.
RE: Sony T415
big_raji @ 8/2/2002 9:00:57 AM #
It might've been fine if they used a white backlight instead of a green one, and had the backlight on all the time. I personally hated the green backlight on the T415. For some reason, it's the only monochrome device that doesn't look good with the green light.

I wasn't forced, and I didn't. Why? BECAUSE IT HAS A LOUSY SCREEN.

>> "I happen to like it." <<

Good for you. I don't.

>>"If you don't, well, uh...don't buy it."<< I didn't.

>>"And quit complaining about how much you hate the screen."<<

Why not? This is a DISCUSSION forum, designed for us to air our OPINIONS. I'm perfectly entitled to do that, and you're perfectly entitled to read my opinion, or not.

>> "Many happy owners don't really care." <<

Fine. I'm NOT a T415 owner--never was, and I DON'T CARE that you like it. I still think it's a piece of junk.

>> "I am sooo tired of people dissing the 415 screen as though they're being forced to buy it." <<

Before I forget...where on earth did you get this conclusion? "People diss the T415 screen, therefore they believe they're being forced to buy it." That's what you're saying. Not sure where you got that one. How about, "People diss the T415 screen, therefore they must think it's bad." THAT would be a logical conclusion.

Go back to school and take a logic class...

Anybody know what T-Checker is for the Sony devices?

I.M. Anonymous @ 8/2/2002 8:10:35 AM #
Can you tell me what "T-Checker" is? I have it on my SONY Clie, have no idea what it is, and it doesn't show up in the "DELETE" list.
