At least it was quicker than Palm and the SUDS issue.

AFTER THE NIGHTMARE I WENT THROUGH, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A PALM MANUFACTURED PDA EVER AGAIN!

Sony all the way!

Sony better get their act together about this and soon. I've read in a couple fourms people complaining about sending their NR70V to Sony to get it repaired and three of fours weeks later the memory stick fails again. If they don't figure out what's really going wrong there will be plenty of people vowing to never buy Sony again.

I think they have gotten their act together on this issue. The first repairs that they did probably did nothing to aleviate the problem, but the repairs in the past month to two months have all come back saying that new parts were added to the MS area, and I haven't seen any reports of these repairs failing.

All the newer NR70 don't seem to have this problem. Hey, getting the problem acknowledged and fixed in 2 months isn't too bad. Talk to iPaq owers about their problems and what Compaq has done with them.

Yes, but the NR70 sells in very tiny numbers compared to any model of the iPaq. Much harder to make everyone happy in Compaq's case.

Gee, why wouldn't the newer NR's have this problem? Maybe because they're NEW and haven't had time to DEVELOP IT?! *sigh*

"AFTER THE NIGHTMARE I WENT THROUGH, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A PALM MANUFACTURED PDA EVER AGAIN!"

I agree that they could have acknowledged the problem sooner, but at least they were quick to replace the affected devices. At one point I had three m505's on my desk because the refurbished unit was defective, and they shipped another overnight express to replace the one which was sent as an advance exchange.

The problem was not Customer Care, it was whoever was in charge of quality control for the refurbs for only the m505. Refurbished IIIxe? Perfect. Refurbished IIIc? no trace of any defects. VII? Just like new.

The replacements for my first m505?

1. Defective battery, dim frontlight.
2. Failed USB, bad ROM (could not even set time)
3. Defective battery, screen scars.
4. Sleep mode problem, drained in one day.
5. Two defective pixels, but kept anyway.

Palm appears to have learned from this experience. My wife's M505 is built like a Rolls Royce and is as bright as my M515. A friend ordered a refurbished m505, and it also has no defects whatsoever. I'm ordering another m505 for my son,.. I'll have to see how that one goes.

128 MMC for $100?

big_raji @ 8/13/2002 10:17:31 AM #
I've never shopped for SD or MMC cards, but isn't that a high price?

I remember a story a day or so ago where PC Mall was selling 128mb SD cards for $58...?

Are MMCs supposed to cost more than SDs?

---
Wooo!

Not sure about cost but playing around with VFSMark shows quickly that the SD cards are significantly faster than the MMC.

MMC are *supposed* to be cheaper, at least that's what I've seen in most cases.

SD is much faster than MMC and it shows when launching apps from the card or moving files. I only owned one MMC card... for abbout ten minutes!

On the speed issue...
I noticed my SanDisk 64MB SD is quite a bit faster than my Palm-labeled 16 MB SD card.
I's run the VFSMark numbers, but I've since given the 16 MB card away to my nephew for his Palm!
My guess is that the oboard controllers are evolving with the memory upgrades?

Check the facts guys,

MMC or SD are about the same in price.

If you saw 128Mb for ~$60 you saw Compact Flash NOT MMC or SD

Memorix is one of the better freeware games out there, and it's getting better and better. It's really addicting! Whenever i pull out my palm m515 i cant resist to play at least one round. My favourite skins are "Chinese Symbols" and "Charlie Brown".
