SnapperMail Rocks!

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 9:59:48 AM #
I've loaded SnapperMail on my Samsung I300 and HandEra 330, and must compliment the Will and the whole SnapperMail team. Thank-you, Thank-you, Thank-you!!

Agreed, as the PalmTop Pro Magazine said: "This app does more for the Palm plattform than any new hardware could do.

I hope it will become a standard for other apps so we will finally be independed from the desktop. I just hope the developers you make office software for Palm will support it. It would be nice to be able to receive ANY attachment wirelessly, view an even edit it on the go.

Everybody should at least try this software - it is just amazing.

Does snappermail run on VII/VIIx models? my guess is probably not, but i'd be interested in hearing the official line.

Nice product, but I like more!

Check for new mail each x minute/hour
Sound an alarm when new mail arrive

I use GPRS on a Treo 270

RE: SnapperMail Rocks what????
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 12:41:29 PM #
You guys really need to get out more. SnapperMail is no more superior than other mail apps out there. If you look closely at all the features it is very limited. Sure it send and receive attachments. Big deal! Other Mailers can do that years ago.

The implementation of attachment is dumb and stupid. For example: when I tap on an .txt attachment it launches the MemoPad. After exiting MemoPad it brings me back to the Launcher. WTF is that all about? why won't it bring me back to SnapperMail or even better why doesn't have a internal reader? this is true for .vcf and .jpg attachments too. It launches the AddressBook too. Doh!

As for receiving mail it has a fancy dialog but its so damn slow in retrieving. I've tested on a high speed network with the emulator.

All in all, SnapperMail has a lot of work ahead. You can't create folders, no mail conduit, can not copy msg text while reading and pop3 password is not masked.

Not sure what the hype is. Clearly just hype! In my opinion MultiMail Pro is alot better even though its interface is butt ugly.

The product does sound great. But, am I the only one who thinks it a bit odd for a company to charge money for a beta?

Wordsmith did this when I bought the beta nearly two years ago. like $20 or 30...
RE: SnapperMail Rocks!
bcombee @ 9/20/2002 4:38:24 PM #
SnapperMail requires a true TCP/IP connection to talk to your POP and SMTP servers, so it won't support the built-in wireless on the Palm VII, VIIx, or i705.

Heh, maybe LaucherX should too...

Re: "and the POP3 password is not masked"

Masking passwords on a Palm is something developers definitely should NOT do. Read any guide to Palm program design.

RE: SnapperMail Rocks!
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/24/2002 6:32:47 PM #
Obviously you don't know too much about security in the workplace. Go ask any IT admin and they'll tell you that without password masking they would not look it the product if app stores sensitive data. The government is even more strict.

You know why developers don't implement password masking? Because its *bitch* to do. Palm engineers should have implemented hooks into the OS so that developers can easily add password masking.

These units are refurbished, not new ones. Look at the image under the s360 description page.

Don't let the name of the site fool you. It is not overstocked. It is just refurbished.

I saw new Clie 615 in COSTCO for $225. Don't buy refurbished for this price.
What's wrong with these pictures?
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 4:11:35 PM #
Funny thing about all the screen pix on the Quicktap site...they show all Palm branded handhelds, but all the screen shots "displayed" on these onscreen Palms are from Sony Clies. Notice that they all show apps like "Clie Demo" and MS Gate. Didn't know Palm was supporting Memory Sticks now.... :-) Maybe someone ought to talk to their marketing guys.

What do you people have against refurbs? They are in fact better than new, since the unit has been through the hands of a fellow user ensuring that what YOU get, works.

Hotmail

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 10:27:33 AM #

I really really hope I can.

it looks good but... u can't send e-mail supposedly...

anyone know of one you can send and receive your hotmail?

RE: Hotmail
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 11:35:10 AM #
why would you want to subject your palm to all that spam?

You need to POP it.

RE: Hotmail
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 1:10:01 PM #
One "solution" is to use Outlook Express to check your Hotmail (see, it can be a good thing that Microsoft owns everything), and then connect your Outlook Express to your Palm via the standard Palm HotSync conduits.

Warning---this is not easy to do. I've tried doing it in the past and there are many version issues to contend with. It may be easier now.

RE: Hotmail
Solo @ 9/21/2002 11:36:15 AM #
There's only one solution for Hotmail, in fact, the best solution for mobile e-mails. I've been using it for 2 years now.

Refurb Clies

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 11:05:33 AM #
We ordered three Clie PEG-S360s from ClearanceClub.com. Two of them were dead on arrival, so you might want to only order from someone with a good return policy. ClearanceClub.com was a pain to contact, has strange rules for returning things, and won't cover shipping costs for returns.

Launcher PLUS

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 12:27:05 PM #
Whatever happened to LauncherX BTW?
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 2:22:00 PM #
It's up to at least Beta 4. I've seen it, looks nice, but not THAT nice. If you like Launcher 3 you'll really like this, if not, well we'll have to see when it is officially released (if ever.)
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 2:58:33 PM #
You haven't seen the "Cool Screenshots"
www.groups.yahoo.com/group/launcher/ has some screen shots of it.

It's in beta 5 and six should be great. Keep your eyes open.

Launcher X
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 7:45:56 PM #
Yeah! Launcher Plus! Bah. Where the hell is the vaporware Launcher X?
RE: Launcher X
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/20/2002 9:18:41 PM #
Well...It's in beta testing right now..I've used every beta thats come out so far.. The newest being beta 5. Its OK..I still like megalauncher more :D
RE: Launcher X
Surv @ 9/21/2002 4:32:09 AM #
I thought Launcher PLUS was one of the best looking launcher around. What do you guys don't like about Launcher PLUS?

RE: Launcher X
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 7:46:13 AM #
It's just Launcher III dressed up to try to copy the look of SilverScreen. SilverScreen 3.0 blows it out of the water.
RE: Launcher X
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 11:27:09 AM #
I pretty much stuck to the ol' 2000 classic... Commander until now. I still have peeves with all launchers and if they can be fixed in Launcher Plus, they've got my money...

1. Ability to pick which apps show up in list… that is, if I don’t want the calculator to show up in any category, I don’t have to.
2. Ability to ‘password’ protect apps (not too big deal)
3. Ability to ‘password’ protect settings like number 1!
4. Ability to turn off the ALL view.
5. For some reason, skins cannot be deleted. They are always ‘in use’ regardless of which one is actually being used.

RE: Launcher X
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 11:33:36 AM #
Hopefully, OS5 will eliminate the need for 3rd party "Launchers"...........
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 3:49:03 PM #
Launcher X is amazing. I don't know what the people here are talking about. It blows all of them out. Email Bozidar, if you want a feature to be included. He will added for sure!
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 5:31:00 PM #
I've never heard raves for vaporware before! The beauty of vaporware is it can have every feature ever imagined (if only in vapor)...but judging from the screenshots its just the same old dog wearing sheeps clothing. If you ask me the default launcher works quite nicely.
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/21/2002 5:55:15 PM #
How can you assume something is vaporware when the author has never let you down. Why are you so pescimistic. You need some fun in your life. Lighten up it's an application! It will come out, but it shouldn't affect your life!
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/22/2002 11:09:06 AM #
I agree, it is too early to tell, and judging by the screenshots on the Launcher group, this will turn out quite nicely. So lets keep our fingers crossed!
RE: Launcher PLUS
I.M. Anonymous @ 9/28/2002 10:59:23 AM #
Also beta testing LX - too nice for words, benc Software has never let anyone done when it comes to quality. If you saw all the issues to over come and the features included, you would not talk so much. But it is easy to blast away when you are "Anonymous"
