Palm

Palm posted an article on Palm.com that recaps the highlights in Palm computing 1999 and looks to what the future holds for Palm Organizers. What's interesting is they mention that Palm and their partners are committed to bringing color and new media features to the Palm OS - but not at the expense of destroying the battery life, size, and weight of the handheld. Something similar to this was mentioned by Palm's VP awhile back.

Colour

James Cridland @ 1/16/2000 2:10:47 AM #
I'm still to be convinced about colour. (Apologies for the Brit spelling, by the way, I can't bring myself to type "color". Ooops, just did.)

I don't know what colour will add to the Palm platform; it's not actually needed to make any of the inbuilt programs work any better, although it would be nice with AvantGo.

Good, though, that 3Com/Palm specifically say that colour will only be introduced when the tech is right - so it won't have an adverse effect on battery power or add too much bulk. Too many companies would just throw colour in, regardless of the consequences.

It seems I need to save up for a new PalmColor - and since Brit prices are normally £1 for $1 (instead of £1 for $1.60) we'll have to get working! :)

I think color is definately the ''next big thing'' for this platform, and I welcome it. Microsoft did it first, but they were a model of how not to implement it. In order for Palm to evolve the OS they must add multimedia capabilities to enhance the functionality of all PalmOS based devices. Especially the Visor.
