Competition?

First post!

I gave up golf a few years ago when I realized it was making my days off worse than my days at work. However, I have always wondered if programs like this are legal in competition.

Not that it would have saved me, but I am curious.

No, it isn't legal. This is from the USGA website:

Q. Is it legal under the Rules of Golf to use a Rangefinder or other EDM device?

A. The use of a laser rangefinder is a breach of Rule 14-3, which states that during a stipulated round, the player shall not use any artificial device or unusual equipment for the purpose of gauging or measuring distance or conditions which might affect his play. (Rule 14-3) However, please note that the guidelines of the USGA Handicap System require that scores made when using such a device must be posted for handicap computation purposes.

I forgot to add, I've been using Intelligolf for about a two years. And I like it. It gives me, the typical hacker (that is golf hacker, not the computer one ;-)), a way to estimate my golf handicap and keep stats on how I play.

Not that it will help me or anything, but it is well... geeky.

I will upgrade to the latest version, and play around a little with the GPS feature. Knowing how far to hit the ball is easier than being able to accurately hit the ball that distance. :-)

Yeah I was going to say...unless the ball itself is guided by GPS...I'm sure I could miss the green or duff it just as easily if I knew the precise yardage to go...lol.

Does it take into account the direction and strength of the wind and propose swing adjustments, etc? Now that would be cool.

I use golf score to keep track of my current game, but this program doesn't calc. my handicap, which is ok because I don't really play enough right now to care about that.

Fore!
