PalmSource Names 2004 Powered Up Winners

PalmSource today honored four Palm OS developers with Powered Up Awards at its third annual US Developer Conference held in San Jose, California. The awards recognize Palm OS developers who have created innovative software applications that represent the best of breed in the Palm Powered Economy.

Selected from over 1,200 nominations, Powered Up Award winners were nominated by their peers, fans, PalmSource employees and licensee partners based upon the following criteria:

  • Innovation -- A solution that pushes the boundaries of, or provides a bridge to, next generation technology;
  • Exciting and New Solution -- A solution that is distinct from anything before it;
  • Popularity -- A leading solution in sales and downloads;
  • Benefits -- A solution that enhances quality of life;
  • Ease of Use - A solution that is simple, elegant and useful;
  • Support -- A solution that has been updated in the last twelve months, runs on Palm OS 5.x or higher, and provides readily available product support.

Winners were selected in four categories and include:

-- Best Enterprise / Productivity Solution:
DateBk5 by Pimlico Software
DateBk5 is an advanced, integrated replacement for the standard Palm OS PIM applications. A light version of DateBk5's predecessor, DateBk3, was licensed to Handspring and appears as their Datebook+. DateBk5 incorporates many new views (week views with text, 4-month, yearly and list views), floating events and reminders. To Do's and appointments feature custom colors, fonts, repeats, alarms, advances, categories, and templates. Anniversaries, daily journal, saved views, time zones, and over 200 other improvements are also included. All profits from the sale of this product are donated to wildlife conservation.

Warfare Incorporated from Handmark, developed by Spiffcode
Now Palm OS devices match a PC or Console for nail-biting and real-time strategy game play with Warfare Incorporated. Developed by Spiffcode and published by Handmark, this action-strategy game was designed from the ground up for mobile devices with stunning graphics, sound, animation and playability. This addictive multi-level game is set in a future ruled by super-corporations wrestling for domination over the newly discovered planet Icarus. Players battle to control and defend its rare mineral deposits while negotiating increasingly challenging missions.

Pocket Tunes by Normsoft
Pocket Tunes is an advanced audio player for Palm Powered devices. It provides music playback in MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and PCM WAV formats, with capabilities to support future formats as they are developed. Pocket Tunes brings streaming audio to all Palm Powered smartphones and wireless devices, allowing users to listen to live broadcasts over the Internet. Pocket Tunes also includes numerous other unique features designed to bring a high-quality listening experience to handheld users.

-- Best Wireless / Over-the-air Solution:
VeriChat by PDAapps
VeriChat(TM) is a unified Instant Messaging application for smartphones and other connected Palm Powered devices. VeriChat uses a wireless data connection to give users an always-on presence on the Yahoo!, ICQ, MSN & AOL IM networks. It delivers an IM experience similar to the desktop experience, and specially optimized for smart mobile devices. Chat with buddies on multiple IM networks simultaneously, while continuing to use other PDA applications for other tasks.
