TealDesktop Application LauncherWith features to satisfy every power user, TealDesktop supports category tabs, multiple card folders, document launching, drag and drop, tap-and-hold menus, background images, fill patterns, and much more. The program also provides full user control over fonts, colors, and even an integrated Theme Editor.

Even better would be...

TealPoint announces they've licensed the G1 libraries from Xerox and will be selling them as a fully supported, $20 plug-in (ie not tied in with TealScript) for all Palm-powered devices running OS 4.1.2 or later.

ackmondual @ 5/11/2005 6:28:52 PM # Q
not good for them. That would compete with TealScript

There is no license issue with G1, Xerox lost the suit because G1 is different from their Unistroke handwriting system.

I agree.

Since the courts ruled in favor of Palm, then it's absolutely inexcusable P1-if not a 3rd party-has not yet at least offered a "pay to play" plug-in for sale. We're at 2.5 years now since the last G1 model from Palm Inc. shipped.

Tealscript is inaccurate in its stroke recognition engine, slow, unintuitive and overly busy/complex for doing a simple task like replacing G2 with G1. I'll even give up on-screen writing on 320*480 devices if it means being able to input G1 strokes as fast and as accurately as I did back with my T|T!

too little too late?

Anyone know how this 'll compare/compete with ZLauncher which already has a big following? IIRC, ZL went up from $12.50 to $20 a while ago, so price is same, but can some users of both camps comment?

Yuck!

Jeez, I really like the utility of some of TealPoint software (like TealDoc), but honestly these folks need to pull their heads out their collective arses and stop designing software that looks like circa 1997 Palm software. Get out of the mobile software biz, Tealpoint....you're making PalmOS look bad.

Have to agree.

These people think it's so cool to be able to organize apps on the card into categories? Huh? How many *years* has ZLauncher supported that? LauncherX, too, IIRC.

So innovative, Tealpoint.

Yes, this tabbed launcher interface has been around since the platform's early years. And TealPoint seems to have done little more than copy Zlauncher...in a really ugly way. This application interface looks SO OUTDATED. My God, this 2005! We can stop designing flat 2D layouts with 256 colors now.

And it's not fair to blame only TealPoint. Many Palm software devs are just as guilty when it comes to building ugly, tired looking applications. But then again, Garnet is a pretty archaic looking UI as well, so perhaps we should be blaming Psource as well.

skPAD is probably better than this, and it's freeware!!
ackmondual @ 5/14/2005 3:41:30 AM # Q
I tried skPAD on my T3... it crashed it, so it's off for good until (if?) the dev can update it. Still, even that looked better than TealDesktop, despite the crashes.

So a program launcher (probably the single most important piece of software on a PDA) that crashes is better than a stable launcher in your opinion? What a magical, wonderful world you live in, Bubba. Stay in school...

Yes, Apple Cultists can already easily create their own iPoo™, but feces didn't seem cool until Jobs told them it was cool. My comment was how skPad, freeware looks better than TealDesktop. Yes its a shame that it crashes. IF that's something that can be fixed, it'll put TealDesktop to shame.

Name change, anyone?

When I first saw this announcement, I thought it was for a replacement for Palm Desktop, not for a launcher that runs on the Palm. Did anyone else think that?

I agree. They should've called it TealLauncher or something like that.
The reason Tealpoint came up with this name:

LX still looks better and has better features and it hasn't really been updated in nearly 2 years.

LauncherX is still the best in my opinion. After going from LaunchPad (only the old timers here will remember that one!) to Benc's brilliant Launcher III to LauncherX, I'm amazed that Palm didn't make LauncherX part of the ROM. It's THAT good. Even if LauncherX was never updated I doubt I'd ever switch to another launcher. LauncherX simply has the most intutive, elegant interface of any launcher currently available. Everything else is bloatware.

I was with LX for a couple years, and with its predecessor LIII before that for another half year, but once I switched to brand Z, I never looked back. There's a learning curve, sure, but plenty of rewards downstream to make it worthwhile.

Let the launcher wars resume...

Looks pretty ugly compared to the creamy goodness of MegaLauncher.
