NoviiRemote IR Blaster for the Treo 650

NoviiMedia today unveiled a new product, the NoviiRemote Blaster for Treo 650. It is an SD card accessory plus software for turning the Treo 650 into the ultimate universal remote control.

IR Blaster for the Treo 650The NoviiRemote Blaster has now been created especially for the Treo 650 and solves the problems of Treo's underpowered IR port. An infra-red transmitter, with a range of up to 75 feet and much greater beam angles, enhances the infra-red power of a PalmOne handheld. Blaster owners can now use their Treos as remote controls from any location in the given room.

Running in the NoviiRemote software, the NoviiRemote Blaster for Treo 650 is easily programmed to control all of a user’s entertainment devices, including TV, Cable/Sat, DVD/CD, VCR, TiVo, etc. After having installed the blaster software on the Treo, you can insert the SD card at any time and launch the application. Colors on Treo’s screen identify volume, channels and other functions. Its multi-color-coded design makes the identification of the individual buttons and functions quick and user-friendly.

NoviiRemote Blaster controls over 10,000 home entertainment devices, recognizing virtually all modern system components. Just select your brand of TV, VCR, DVD, DVR, cable/sat box, CD player and audio receiver from the list, and the NoviiRemote software automatically starts controlling your AV system.

NoviiRemote Blaster for Treo 650 is available for purchase now for $35.99.

Good to see an IR product like this for the Treo.
Check out IR Monitor at freewarepalm.com as well for a free IR monitoring app.

IR Monitor will not work with Treos or OMAP-based devices. Quoting:

--Notice--
This IR Monitor is using Raw IR mode of PalmOS. Raw IR mode cannot be used on OMAP-based (Tungsten|T, Tungsten|T2, Tungsten|E, Zire21, Treo600, and Zire71) products due to an OMAP processor limitation. The OMAP's UART3 automatically frames all data according to the IrDA specification. There is no way to change this setting in the processor and use raw IR in the OMAP UART. Therefore, IRMonitor cannot be used by the model of OMAP.

I agree. I use tons of apps on my Treo (e.r. real player, quicken, splashphoto, ereader, smartlist), but couldn't imagine taking it this far.

I agree that the NoviiBlaster itself is overkill, but I actually use the NoviiRemote program daily. I can control practically every IR media device in my house and at work.

this is a "thinking outside the box" product.

i just hope they create drivers for other devices especially older palm handhelds and the ones with larger screens.

it would be great to use a discarded haldheld as a universal remote around the house.

thinking outside the box! that's why love palm users and developers!

At first I thought using a discarded palm as a remote might be a good idea, but then when remotes get lost or layed on a table they would always be out of power.

For $12 you can get a universal remote that runs on batteries that don't need to be replaced for years and have few breakable parts. (So when the cat knocks it off the table....)

I had NoviiRemote Deluxe on my Tungsten E and enjoyed it greatly, but it's impossible to use on my Treo 650 because of the range. I am excited to not have to creep up to the TV set when I am out and about.
