Unlocked Treo 680 Updater Released in Europe
Palm's European division have recently posted a new unlocked Treo 680 updater. This version appears to be functionally identical to the one released by Palm a few weeks ago, yet it reports a different software version number (Treo680-2-12-ROW).
The main improvements in this comprehensive ROM update include: Microsoft Exchange Direct Push Technology, power saving enhancements, support for larger SD & SDHC cards, enhanced ringtone support and incorporates previous updates and security patches.
The full description of updates from Palm includes:
- Corporate email as it arrives – Have your corporate email delivered to you with Microsoft Direct Push Technology. Accept or decline meeting invites and access your company directory on the go.
- Power saving enhancements – Helps conserve battery life with improved power management and updated default system power preferences.
- Supports larger expansion cards – Supports up to 4GB SD expansion cards (including the SDHC format), sold separately.
- Enhanced ringtone support – MP3 and other sound files purchased from the web or sent from friends can now be set as ringtones and alerts (formats: MP3, AAC, AAC+, MIDI, WAV, and AMR).
- Three updates in one – This update incorporates three previously released software updates: Treo 680 Camera Update (January 2007), Treo 680 Security Patch (May 2007), and Treo 680 Unlocked GSM smartphone SMS Update (July 2007).

Problems when signal is lost
Now I find that the Treo has shut down a few times today and unless I constantly check it, I am not sure if the phone is turned on or not! I have only travelled a radius of about 60 miles today but this has not happened before.
I am really trying to use my Treo but I am seriously considering getting rid of it and going back to the TX and a simple dumb cell phone.

Problems I experienced:
*SMS message length was permanently locked at 160 characters and would not string together multiple messages like before.
*Softick Audio Gateway didn't work properly anymore, even with their new version.
*Odd, unexplained resets that happened for no apparent reason. Not particularly unusual for Palm OS, admittedly, but it was happening far more frequently than I was used to.
You can get the original 1.04 firmware via this thread:

Personally I used the "custom" version, which strips a lot of unnecessary junk out of the ROM. My 680 boots twice as fast as it used to now.

TREO680-1.05-APR
my treo shows: TREO680-1.05-APR and the update fails... is there a way around it? i don't need Chinese anyway!
RE: TREO680-1.05-APR
so it's a good tip i guess... if you, like myself, bought the device in Hongkong or Singapore...
Also, a warning: If you do it you will lose Chinese language...
RE: TREO680-1.05-APR
Have you had any problems with this update?
Do you have access to all original programs (i.e. VersaMail, etc.)?
Is it worth upgrading?
