Restore the Home Icon on the Palm TX

Ludus Technologies has released a free utility that corrects one of my main complaints regarding the Palm TX. SharkTXfix will change the "find" icon on the status bar to a "Home/Apps" icon in the bottom right corner, just as it is on the Tungsten T3/T5.

Smiles All Round

KultiVator @ 10/17/2005 5:12:30 PM # Q
I have to say that this makes the TX proposition a little more attractive.

I am beginning to think that I might be able to live without the vibrating alarms on my T3 and perhaps even the voice recorder.

But then, its a lot to pay for occasional WiFi on the move (when my Dell Notebook has WiFi), a marginally brighter screen for TomTom and a slim form-factor.

Come on guys - I need help. Talk me into or out of it!

Personally I would be glad to get rid of the slider on the T3. Other than that you either have a use for WiFi or you don't. The large amount of memory is nice. Its not like there are any great OS or built in app changes though. I like the T3 buttons better and of course its more solidly made than the TX.

I like TT3 for every aspect except 2 issues. One is short battery life. Second one and also the one which gives me the most headache is digitalizer shift. This latter problem complete nulified the advantage of having a slider.

The vibrating alarm is good because the nature of my work does not allow too much noise. People work around.

Anyways, I am waiting for price drop near Christmas time to grab a TX. The slower processor is a trade-off for a better battery life. I don't care much about WiFi because I don't feel like surfing on a small screen. But I may try to get my email via WiFi. It sounds interesting.

If the T3 didn't hiss at me, I'd still be using it today as my main PDA.

Just sent my Purchase-Order for 280€ . Of course I ´ll miss the VibrationAlarm and the Slider, even though its gone a bit slippery... OK, without a slider the TX will look out of my shirt pocket but WiFi is much more geekier ;)

i really did't realise that EVERYBODY who had a t3 had this blasted digitiser shift and his! I will miss the slider, vibrate, led, voice, but because of the wifi int. i can have my 2gb sd card in perminantly (finally). os 6 would have been nice, but, what can i say. it doesn't have many bad points [the tx]
i never used that find button anyway.....

-palm the same mistakes with each model, only, just more advanced ones (still waiting 4 cobalt)

I have a T3 and I don't have digitiser drift or a hiss.

How Then Would One FIND?

LiveFaith @ 10/17/2005 11:22:01 PM # Q
Now that the Find icon is gone, how would the user do it? It would be a neat feature to hold the Home button for the most recent apps and have the bottom app be the find. That way, all would be saved.

Just swipe the stylus up from the home/find button to bring up the find dialog box.

I can't install it on my TX

AndyOT @ 10/18/2005 5:39:51 AM # Q
Try as I might.. I can't get it to install! The SharkTXFix does install without any problems but the other PRC file, FixedStatusBarResources gives the following error.

HotSync operation started for AndyOT on 10/18/05 09:50:18
Install failed: C:\Program Files\Palm\OTAndy\Install\FixedStatusBarResources.prc
Install synchronization failed
Protocol Error: Read-only. (4009)

Not sure where to report this.....

Yep, exact same problem on mine. I installed the 1.1 SharkTXFix .prc first, then saw the 1.2 version out, so I deleted the 1.1, tried putting on the 1.2 of the SharkTXFix .prc and the FixedStatusBarResources .prc at the same time, and no matter what I try, the FixedStatusBarResources comes up with the same error message you reported. The SharkTXFix does work, however.

Andy,

I had the same experience. Report it to the following address, as I did:

defboy @ 10/18/2005 11:26:23 AM # Q
yeah, same problem.
i got around it by:
1) install the two files onto the SD card
2) move the SharkTXfix.prc file first from my card to Palm
3) move the FixedStatusBarResources.prc file second from my card to Palm.
4)Reset

Sort of the same way when installing G1 into the TX. Tell you the truth, I reset after installing the first file, and reset after moving the second file...might work with one or two reset.

Try it out...I'm liking my TX even more (although I'm missing my T3...it's the first palm i truly enjoyed)

Will do. So how do you access the Find function without the icon?

I don't really use the Find function that much.
launcherx does a great job categorizing my 100+ files

Here's a copy of what wolfgard said on the subject above our post

Also, Ludus Technology provide a freeware called "SharkBtn" that will allow you to customize the hard button (good for the Home button) to your liking.

Finally, You can change one of the larger icons in the graffiti area to the find funtion.

but as for changing the other option in the toolbar to find, that I don't know.

Hmm, my T|X won't even let me copy fixedstatusbarresources.prc over from my memory card to RAM. Hrumph.

LudusTech @ 10/18/2005 4:46:08 PM # Q
Hello! Due to PalmOS file system limitations the prc can NOT be HotSynced. If you want to add the Home icon, either use MySkin by Alex Pruss OR just copy the FixedStatusBarResources.prc from an SD card to RAM using FileZ or another file manager! best regards, LudusTech Support

Ok, now the question becomes:

How does SharkFix interact with FindHack? Can they coexist on the same button without causing problems? (Would swiping the SharkFix' Home button engage FindHack instead of the regular Find?) I'd love to use SharkFix, but if I have to pick one, I'd have to go with FindHack. The only way it can be run is via the Find softbutton. Would the swipe engage it instead? Any thoughts? Thanks.

DaveyDave @ 10/19/2005 5:21:14 PM # Q
Ok I ended up hotsyncing the prc fine (before reading this forum... it would be nice to include a readme with the TX fix files). Then I copied the statusbarlib file from the SD to main memory (still doesn't show up in FileZ in main memory though). I enabled SharkTX from its appp, and the find icon is now a home icon after a soft reset, but now every time I tap the home icon the TX soft resets. What gives? I can't delete FixedStatusBarLib from main memory because it doesn't sho that it's there (even though I copied it). HELP!

DaveyDave @ 10/19/2005 5:39:51 PM # Q
Well, Ifound the FixedStatusBarButons file, it had renamed itself in main memory to just StatusBarLib I guess. Anyway, I just deleted it, the SharkTXFix app, and also ButtonsEX (just in case they were gumming things up too. I reinstalled as suggested above, one at a time from the card, and it works. Good deal. Should be instructions either on his web site or in a readme though. :-(

I have a T3. I have not had digitizer shift and I am hard of hearing, so I have no idea if it hisses.

Sharkfix and Findhack were wonderfully together. An upward swipe from your new home icon will result in the findhack find box.

Icon is changed, but function remains same

Malarky22 @ 11/9/2005 4:23:20 AM # Q
Hello,
I moved the sharkTXfix file and the FixedStatusBarResources file from the SD card, followed by a soft reset as mentioned by others.

However, the icon was changed to the home icon, but when I pressed it, the find function appeared. I then tried to delete the files, but could only delete the sharkTXfix file. I could not delete the statusbarresourses file because of a ROM error.

Is there anything that can be done to change the function of the new home button?

Thanks,
CB

I had the same thing happening with my TX. Icon is there, does not work, can't restore back to normal.

Have you or anybody figured out what to do?..
