Motion Apps' mVoice Updated

mVoice Treo SoftwareMotion Apps has released a new version 5.5.5 update to their mVoice call recording and voice memo application. This latest update comes just one month after the release of v5.5.4. The new 5.5.5 build adds, in addition to the more substantial improvements made to earlier 5.x versions, official Palm Centro support and additional, unspecified "minor improvements".

mVoice is available now for $24.95 and runs on the Treo 650, 680, 700p, 755p, and Centro smartphones. You can read my comparison review of version 5.0.

In brief preliminary testing last night with mVoice 5.5.5 on my updated 1.10 Verizon Treo 700p with a 4GB SD card, I found the app’s menu responsiveness and recording performance to be slightly better than earlier versions. One note of caution: my 700p did crash and require a soft reset during the Nutshell installer’s unpacking process (despite having ~26mb of available memory). I had used the app’s integrated version checker to perform an automatic download and install of the latest version. Upon completion of the reboot, the Nutshell installer proceeded to complete its routine. The app then installed itself and overwrote the previous version of mVoice without a hitch. However, initial performance was quite poor but exiting the app and resetting the Treo an additional time brought everything back to normal. Cautious types may just want to download the zip archive and install the mVoice PRC the old-fashioned way via Hotsync instead of using the OTA download installer.

Registered users of earlier 5.x versions of mVoice can download the update using the app’s built-in auto update feature. The app itself is a self-executing installer that requires ~180k of device memory with the full uncompressed app needing ~347k. An SD or SDHC card is required for storing audio files.
