Fax from your Palm or Treo

Conklin Systems has been busy working on its fax solutions for the Palm OS. With CS Fax, you can compose, send and receive faxes directly from your Treo or Palm OS handheld.

CS Fax lets you receive faxes while you're on the go, view faxes on your handheld, sign them and send them out again, or even communicate ideas quickly with an inserted drawing. The programs is a "true" fax solution, in that it does not require a gateway, wrapper account or any other subscription service.

Fax from your Treo or Palm OS HandheldThe current version features the following:

  • Create original faxes and:
    • Insert Memo Pad, Address Book, To Do records
    • Insert Doodle or Mark/Space Sketch drawings
    • Insert text from a user-defined phrase book database
    • Scale images and text horizontally and vertically
  • Preview fax before sending (saves on connect time)
  • Receive faxes (with compatible modems/cell phones) and:
    • Save and manage received faxes on your device
    • Store documents in fax form on your device, ready to send
    • Sign and annotate saved faxes and send them back out!
  • Create a library of customizable cover pages
  • Insert things like time, date and destination automatically with fax macros
  • Use easy modem configuration, with full access to advanced parameters if needed
  • Easy to use on the road with a calling card

The company says that the Treo is supported, however depending on your carrier you may need to add a 'CSD fax service plan.' GSM Treo's currently can send faxes but not receive them. Other Palm OS handhelds may work over Bluetooth if you have a compatible mobile phone.

CS Fax sells for $49.95 and there is a free fully-functional trial version.

Very nice to see a successor to 'Handfax' from long ago. I have only been able to get it to send cover sheets so far, and my trial has run out. But the cover sheets look pretty good.

It's $50 bucks, so for my usage I can't justify the money. Others who send faxes from the road might find it worthwhile, especially if you can get more than a cover sheet to print!

CS Fax (open-beta)

If you want to be part of the next big release of CS Fax; Conklin Systems announced the early access to the new version as an open-beta last month, the open-beta now at version 3.0.5, with the new version you'll be able to import and export saved faxes from-and-to your storage card, and it'll allow you to fax directly from the card, and best of all you'll be able to convert faxes from your PC,

Works Fantastic!!! On the SPRINT Treo650 Version...

ScottG @ 3/6/2006 6:23:49 PM # Q
I tried this right away as soon as I saw the Post for it here. I sent a Fax From the Treo650 with Sprint, to my Fax Machine. I got the cover page and the Memo I loaded into it, how Friggin COOL!!!!! Then I faxed to the Treo650, after clicking the Receive Button. Worked like a charm, really unbelievable, I was shocked at how cool this is. I do think it is a bit pricey, but it's one of those things you have to get. I would like to see them have a way of faxing a PDF, or a Word DOC out of DTG8.0.

Scott: thanks for your report. I also have Sprint with a Treo but 700p. Can you tell me if you had to pay for any special service from SPRINT in order to be able to fax through your Treo? If so, what was the service name and approximately how much does it cost?

Thanks.
Rmar
