mOcean Gets Mac iTunes Synchronization

mOcean MP3 music player for Palm and TreomOcean, a mp3 digital audio player for the Palm OS, has been updated. mOcean features a touch sensitive scrolling user interface and controls much like the popular Apple iPod. This latest version features a number of enhancements and performance tweaks. MotionApps has also added iTunes synchronization for Mac OS X users (the program originally only included Windows iTunes syncing when first released).

Users of iTunes on Mac and Windows computers are now able to transfer their music to their device much faster than before. mOcean v2.5 features an advanced synchronization module that will automatically keep your mobile and desktop tunes in sync without the need of going through pain of manual file transfers through HotSync.

mOcean lets you browse and control music playback with a on-screen mini scroll wheel as well as the 5-way navigator. You can create, save and load playlists from your personal music collection stored on an SD memory card. It has 22 preset equalizer settings and you can search for songs by typing in a few letters of the title. It also has background music support and headphone integration that will pause the music when the stereo headphones are disconnected or when the phone rings.

mOcean is available now with a free trial. It costs $19.95 USD to register. The v2.5 update is free for registered users. The app is only compatible with the Palm Treo 650, 700p, Palm TX and LifeDrive.

Treo mp3 players

mOcean is great, but it needs a real equaliser and the audio quality still isn't quite up to Pocket Tunes' standard. While it has the oomph that so many Palm mp3 players lack - hello, Realplayer! - the clarity is lacking. It all seems to blend together a bit.

It also needs to provide a pop-up console when you're in other apps, as pTunes does.

If you dislike pTunes for some reason, or love the iPod interface, this is a sure bet.

P.S. Know what I want to see most of all from a Treo mp3 player? A "jump to song" function that works exactly like the Contacts search from the Treo Phone screen. As in, all you need to do to select a song in your playlist is type a few letters, and there it is. We've got an exposed keyboard, dammit: make good use of it!

And on that note as well, please give us mobile ID3 tag editing! Since my Treo is randomly autofilled by Winamp whenever I sync, I'm always noticing mp3s from my library that have incorrect, incomplete or just plain screwed-up tags. Being able to edit them from the player app would be a godsend, as I could just fix them up whenever I see them. As it is, I have to make a mental note to fix up that track when I get home - and I always forget.

Have you tried TagEditor ?(http://www.reichertonline.be/tageditor.php)

Cool little FREE program. Not quite the same as modifying while in pTunes, but still works well. Haven't had any problem with this app on my TX.

Awesome. Hopefully they'll implement ID3v2 soon... Thanks for the link.

No AAC support = no sale.

Exactly. If this software ever gets to a point where I can play anything from my iTunes library, including stuff I bought at the iTunes store, I will buy this siftware and a big fat SD card. One less thing to carry would be awesome.

Aeroplayer, which does have an iPod like 'skin' (although I don't believe the on screen scroll wheel actually works) does aac's if you purchase the codec.

TCMP also does AAC's if you look hard enough for the codec (which isn't on the TCMP home page.)

I don't believe either have really robust equalizers, if any.

while those apps will do regular AAC's files, you still can't play drm'd AAC's from the iTunes music store.

How's the synchronization?

Is the sychronization with iTunes as easy as my iPod shuffle?
