Video: Flash Demo'd on webOS
True to their word that they would demonstrate the beta of Flash Player 10 for smartphones in October, Adobe have released a video of the platform in action on the Palm Pre, with all the multitasking goodness that we've come to expect from webOS. Presented in the video are three browser cards, each running one of the Flash showcases: streaming video (with proper landscape support), streaming audio and a game.
"We did a lot of work with Flash Player, to make sure that it integrates with the device, can tell when the device transitions from one application to another," says Adobe's Adrian Ludwig. "And that means we can minimise battery consumption, CPU consumption and actually have multiple instances of Flash running at the same time in different browser windows."
More information on Flash Player 10 can be found at the Adobe Labs website, where you can also sign up to be notified of the availability of the Flash for Palm Pre beta. No firm release date is given for the beta other than "later this year", with full public release expected in early 2010.

Flash video
I like the fact it tells Flash to STFU when in Card View. I wish to hell a desktop browser could tell Flash to STFU when the tab is not in the forefront!!
Maybe Flash ads won't be an issue...

Yay?
My third hand is even more ambivalent. Thanks to my My Tether and Bluetooth, I can now tether my netbook and my UMPC to my Pre and browse the web in Chrome or Firefox under Windows. So the need that I had for flash video on my phone back in June just isn't that pressing anymore. There are some parts of the desktop experience that are best left on the desktop.
