RE: Switching Platforms
Talk about a TOTAL lack of a non-compete clause in his employment contract!
Now THAT'S fascinating!
[he can't hire anyone away from PLMO for one year from the time he left - that's January 2005, I believe, not June 2005]

This is going to be a tough job for Todd, and I hope he does well.
Palm OS adoption at HP
This can only be good news for PSRC not so good for PLMO.
What do you think?
Ben
RE: Palm OS adoption at HP
CAPS FOR SEPERATION FROM NEW CLIP:
WITH MR. BRADLEY HAVING SUCH A BROAD POSITION IN THE PSG GROUP MAKING NOTEBOOKS, DESKTOPS, HANDHELDS AND SUPPORT SERVICES, HE COULD REALLY DO SOMETHING WITH A PALM LINUX OS.
ULTRA LIGHT NOTEBOOKS COULD BE MADE, DESKTOPS RUNING LINUX WITH AN IDENTIFIABLE GUI, AND HANDHELDS THAT COULD BE INCREDIBLE.
JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW AGGRESSIVE HP WANTS TO BE WITH IT NEW PRODUCTS BUT THE POTENTIAL IS THEIR.
RE: Palm OS adoption at HP
It is still too early to speculate what Todd will do in the PDA space. He has bigger fish to fry in the next 12-18 months, so my guess is that he will do absolutely nothing new in the PDA/Smartphone any time soon.
RE: Palm OS adoption at HP
People have been saying it for years, but I'll echo it yet again, the zen of palm is dying/dead. People want fancy pretty gadgets with lots of features.

Hmmmm, you think Microsoft might have objected....
-Kevin Crossman, Palm Powered Software Champion
RE: Palm OS adoption at HP
That seems unlikely since PalmOS market share is declining, which indicates LESSENING demand.

Yeah - but part of that is the fact that p1 is the only lisensee. HP sells boxes that run Linux - so they are not ideologically married to redmond. Not that i think it will happen mind you - but heck, anything is possible.
Interaction?
PC, PDA, PPC, Smart phone and we-com technology are all forms of digital interaction. If we listen and build to what we hear vs. building for the sake of assuming "they will come" will we offer more choices?
Let's make peace the most profitable choice. To build a people driven industry is only possible in a democracy so let's show the world what democracy can do for you too.
Yes more choices are more expensive that is the price of democracy.
Working together is not the same as working as one … it is better!

RE: Interaction?
Like most successful international "companies" started with an idea focused on the customer (people) who give the company purpose.
VC2K, Raven, e-knarr, we-com virtual wallet is not yet a company and to some that is insane. A good company assures all that have risked their thoughts are never left behind. In an advanced economy we can include all thoughts. "Insane" thoughts have value too depending on ones frame of mind. To be called "insane" or to be insane what would you rather choose?
Let's give more purpose to digital in the form of people driven choices that are open to unique thoughts that do not compromise ones freedom(s)
Eh some have interacted with many PDAs ... even the DOS based 200 LX.

Peter Principle in Action
"Peter Principle" - The theory that employees within an organization will advance to their highest level of competence and then be promoted to and remain at a level at which they are incompetent.
What's next? Nagel to head up Windows Mobile Division?
RE: Peter Principle in Action
Oh yes, I've now been to Circuit City, Best Buy and Frys and no one is carrying the lifedrive or "stillborndrive". They have abandoned the segment, their customers, and most importantly, themselves. Apple has Jobs, Microsoft has Bill, Dell has Michael. Who does Palm have to re-invigorate the cycle and platform? Certainly not Hawkins. Who will step up to the plate and be the new evangelist at Palm?????????????????

Yeah, I know it's Mr. Hawkins and Ed Colligan, but come to think of it, Maybe Kirvin and Hardy could be more atunned to what the endusers wants...

LifeDrive spotted in CompUSA White Plains NY!
RE: Peter Principle in Action
When some try to be "principled" you imply they are "insane".
Have principled people gone mad or have some simply forgotten that to be un-principled was "insane" ... 9/11 was an un-principled choices with ridicules consequences.
If the future is "insane" then we must value education too to bridge understanding. Perhaps with understanding comes sanity. Perhaps "insanity" is a consequence of not enough choices?

RE: "Proverb" in Action
""Talk doesn't cook rice." - Chinese Proverb"
Some also care how the rice will get paid for so thinking of ways to work in North America along with a federation of the willing seems logical too.
"Where's the beef"? Where's the NHL hockey? Where's the lumber? Where's the choice to power our cars with choices?
Rice would not exist, nor would the above choices, if some person(s) did not ask (talk) about the value of rice. In a democracy people give talk value, which gives capital value, which is why capitalism is a component of democracy. It is people free to be ridiculed that take the early risks – North American proverb
Let's do more than proverb … WE have too much to do?

RE: e_tellurian RULEZ!!!
Rules are important and i am a bad example of rules.
Today while rushing a bucket of concrete to a hard working fellow i tripped and almost fell off the roof. The worst part was i could have knocked this fellow off too.
i know: no "running", "lift your feet", "are you tied off"?
It's all so simple and yet sooo complicated. The poem about a whole in the bucket suddenly made sense as lives flashed before my eyes.
Anyway follow the rules that are logical and be patient with those that are well meaning.
Thanks to all that watch my back, it must be the most stressful job in the world and part of the BIG picture.
All people help create value and give time value hence capital its value.
People give value purpose and rules are meant to get value to grow with all that risk their thoughts.
Thanks,
E-T

If it takes drugs to understand, then my thoughts are not worth reading.
Please try reading my thoughts when your mind is clear too. Then compare the experience and let us know if Ryan should spend more time (money) on these thoughts.
Ryan thanks for the years of allowing some thoughts to grow ... equity has value when people risk their time to allow unique, "insane" interaction.
Perhaps sanity is a state of mind best enjoyed with a clear mind.

Mike Cane: Here's Mike Mace on your 12 Cobalt smartphones:
>>Why is Palmsource more hesitant about releasing new licensee info while Microsoft and Symbian appear to tout new licensees at every chance they get?
I don't know how it is for other companies, but our licensees generally don't want us to say anything until they are ready to ship. Sometimes we have to announce anyway, but we'll do that only if the licensee is so large that it's the sort of thing we have to report to investors.
Also, while we want more licensees, we're not trying just for raw numbers, especially in the smartphone space. The smartphone markets are not limitless in size, and even if they were, the carriers won't offer a limitless number of products. Most new smartphones, on any platform, fail. Although I'd love the PR impact of announcing a dozen new licensees tomorrow, for the long-term good of the platform I'd prefer to see us do a really good job with several licensees than a mediocre job with a dozen.

Anyway, looks like all those Cobalt boasts were a steaming pile of Nagel-flavored dung. Yummy!
That Cobalt prototype demoed at DevCon last month couldn't even get approved for sale in the USA for at least another YEAR. How many Nokias, Sony Ericssons, Windows smartphones, etc will have been released by then?
