My Palm Pilot seemed just the ticket for a regular traveler and
off-shore sailor -- battery-powered AND backed-up by computer.
Unfortunately a week after my laptop died from falling off a luggage cart, my Palm Pilot was tossed across the cabin of my 42 foot sailboat when we were hit by a big wave while beating down
the Kattegut near Denmark. Surprisingly, it came on briefly before dying, but portions of the screen were damaged. The new laptop, a Toughbook 71, survived the same disaster without damage, but unfortunately the Palm software had not yet been installed. So I had lots of angry people wondering why they did not get the expected correspondence. Do I move to a Palm V or go back to pen and paper? Not clear at this point.
