It still isn't clear exactly why OmniSky/Minstrel S users must use the new Visors, as Al Hernandez, spokesperson for Novatel Wireless, has said, "The Minstrel S Wireless Springboard Modem works with all existing Visors." In any case, OmniSky is offering a $300 rebate to people who buy a Platinum or Prism, the Minstrel S, and also activate the OmniSky service by January 31, 2001. Regularly, the modem costs $300 and the service is $40 per month.

OmniSky is great, and I'm glad they're pushing the retail envelope. Omnisky must learn however that $40 a month is steep for colleqe students an executives alike. How about a $10 a month plan like GoAmerica and Palm.net? Omnisky misses the bus here.

Okay so I am supposed to jump for joy that I can get a rebate of $300 when I have to shell out at least $600 to get the modem? I currently own a Visor Deluxe . . I was promised units such as this would work with it . . In fact it has been said that it does work . . yet they still want me to buy at least a Prism? Take that $300 and shove it . .
Hell, I can go out and buy an IR capable PCS phone and use my current $40/month cell service to surf the net with my Visor Deluxe right now if I wanted to . . . This Omnisky isnt even a cell phone . . I predict a flop . .
