As of April 18, the channels feature of 3Com's Audrey no longer functions. 3Com has offered Audrey owners who purchased their units directly from 3Com a full refund, regardless of purchase date. Just call 3Com for an RMA number, and all the details will be sent by email. Customers who purchased their Audrey's through other retail channels must contact the retailer directly regarding any possible refunds.

Lightening doesn't strike twice

I knew that thing was going to be a bomb, and now they're cutting support for it. What a stain on 3Com's reputation. I guess all 26 people that bought them are going to be returning them now. Maybe they'll show up on Egghead for a dollar and we can have a chance to hack with them a bit.

"Internet appliances" is a concept before a market. It's a buzzword intended to make investors think that $500 computers are going to be as ubiquitous as TVs and microwave ovens. They aren't. There may be room for more than one PC in the home, but it's not going to be some dumbed down thing that only does internet for $500 + $20/month. It's either going to be a full networked PC capable of all the home office and entertainment uses, or it's going to be something that is built in to another device, such as a gaming console or a cable box or PVRs - - something that reduces the price by piggybacking on another purchase and makes use of the TV that is already in every home.
