Comments on: BackFlip -email from anywhere
Just noticed this new product in the latest PalmReader, the BackFlip, from pocketmail. It's a device that clips on to the back of your Palm III series device and allows you to send/receive email from any phone by a 800 number. They also have a fixed $9.95 a month plan with unlimited use. There's no word yet on pricing or a shipping date but you can sign up for their mailing list.

RE: Ok...
The way I read the PocketMail site, you call their 800 number (hence the service charge) and it connects to your e-mail services (AOL, Compuserve, IMAP/POP3, etc).
It consolidates all your mail-gathering and mail-sending over one dial-up.
The initial version of Pocketmail worked with Sharp Zaurus or another PDA like that. There have been rumors about something like this for the Palm for a couple of months.
I want one! The Palm modem, long distance calling, etc, to check mail doesn't cut it for me.

RE: I dont get it...
NOTHING connects to the phone, doofus. You hold it up to the phone. One side to either end of the handset... it's kinda like holding two phone handsets together so two people on different phones can talk. Except one person is your Palm, and the other person is your email service, in this case. They sell a similar device to this that's totally separate from a Palm and actually has a real keyboard, too. Same monthly $. See both the Backflip info and the separate unit at http://www.pocketmail.com/products/" CLASS=NEWS>http://www.pocketmail.com/products/
