Yep, that's a good thing.
But, I'm not sure PalmOne sees it's goals as necessarily getting to be able to get Cobalt out. PalmOne does not make it's living by having the latest OS, but by selling the most hardware at a cost as far as possible below the wholesale price. Palmsource is the one banking it's life on Cobalt. PalmOne has to survive whether it means Garnet, another OS or blasphemously even that stuff from the darkside. Being corporate fanboys for Palm OS may be cool, but could also sink the ship. The mass markets that the Treo needs to reach could generally care less if it's POS, WMob, Linux or DOS for that matter. They want the features that makes the device into a powerful, trendy, attractive & effective tool. IMO, Palm OS is the ultimate, but I'm not the market. RE: Hmm this seems like good news for PalmOne
I resisted buying the last T3 I saw on a retail shelf here in Australia as I was told that the 650 would be released here in Feb. At last - my T/T is falling to bits.
It wouldn't surprise me if the retailers are listing the Treo 650 purely on speculation... after all, it's obvious that the Treo 650 will be coming to Australia at some point, the specs are well known, the pricing is not set (and looks way low), but since this is "pre-order", anything is subject to change.
It's somewhat ironic to me... the retailers see Treo 650 stories on rumour sites like TreoCentral and PalmInfocenter, advertise the Treo 650 for pre-order, and PalmInfocenter runs a story on it. (If the retailers would like to refute this post, please do.) RE: Retailers read the rumour sites, too
Agreed the price looks low - considering the 600 has been selling for $1k over the last couple of months
RE: Retailers read the rumour sites, too
Just to let you know that the Treo 650 is now selling in Australia. Stores have it in stock now. The most common price is $1049 (e.g. from www.ow.com.au) but to date the lowest price I have seen is $971 from www.handheldsonline.com.au

The world will end in 2006. Just as it was predicted in the bible along with the release of Microsoft Longhorn.... :p
