Comments on: Stanford Palm User Group Meeting July 1st

The Stanford PalmPilot User Group meets at 7 pm on the first Tuesday of each month; the July first meeting will feature the Spugly Award for the Worst Palm OS Software Ever. The first nominee is Paragon/Penreader's SlovoEd dictionary application, for its chunk over-locked crashes and robotic technical support responses. Spug members are encouraged to demonstrate their own nominees for the Spugly Award at the meeting, and to show technical support responses which fail the Turing Test. Readers of PalmInfoCenter may also suggest nominees in the discussion forum.

The Spugly Award™ for the Worst Palm OS Software Ever was awarded to VersaMail.

The Failed Turing Test Award for the Most Robotic Technical Support went to Paragon/Penreader Software.

A Special Anti-Spugly Award was given to Dmitry Grinberg of PalmPowerups for COP (Chunk Over-lock Protector™), which was written during the meeting and mitigates the effects of one of Paragon/Penreader's bugs.

Thanks to the forum participants at 1src and our anonymous experts for their nominations. Note that, in response to demand for a general release of Chunk Over-lock Protector™, Mr. Grinberg issued the following statement:

It was a rough hack (made in an hour or so) just for that purpose. I do not think a wide distribution of it is needed or warranted.
